I got an e-mail from my mother this morning.

I knew that I shouldn't have opened it, but I am a sucker for punishment.

What did it say?

'Lose my number.....you don't have a mother anymore.....remember'

Hm.....

Why doesn't that hurt as much as I think that it should?

I returned her e-mail.

I wrote 'I just wanted you to know about your mother. I'm sorry for your loss.'

Quite tame, I know.

I wanted to lash out and be just as hurtful and hateful as my mother, but I couldn't.

I'm better than that.
