no closie the eye balls

08/09/2012

Time for a proper entry. The one that I did earlier was on my phone, and I didn't have much space or time to get into anything. Very first thing that I need to write about is my husband's TIA in the middle of August. To say that we have had a harsh wake-up call is nothing - this has changed the way that we do EVERYTHING in our house.

First off, for those of you who don't know, a TIA or (Transient Ischemic Attack) is also called a mini-stroke. That is what happened to my husband on the 18th of August. He lost the vision in one of his eyes for about 90 minutes that morning. We had appts at the ER, then the eye-doctor, then the lab at the hospital, and then finally one more visit with the eye-doctor. It was a long and worrisome day. I thought that I was going to lose my best friend that day, the world felt like it was going to crash down upon us.

Kev breezed through the MRI of his carotid, no clogged arteries or danger signs. Whew.

The doctor put him on medication for high blood-pressure, and she lectured him about changing his lifestyle.

She needn't had bothered, Kevin was sufficiently scared to do whatever it took to try and fix this.

So, we instituted the lifestyle change immediately. First to go was the energy drinks and the Pepsi. Be still my heart - that piece really hurt. Then the junk food needed to be eliminated. Fried foods.

We started taking walks together and we are currently eating a lot of salads - this is the one part that I am getting sick and tired of *(rolls eyes)*, but we find ways to change it up.

I went to my doctor's appt, and it turns out that my blood-pressure is higher than Kev's. I also have majorly high cholesterol and I have started to take a blood-pressure medication.

Today was my 2nd check-up, I have lost a total of 28 pounds since August 18 - and that is very encouraging. Kev refuses to get on the scale, but his shorts are starting to loosen up on him, so I guarantee that he has lost some weight also.

Today I had to have a mole removed, and then the doc put 3 stitches in it. Doesn't hurt, but it is in a very awkward place - right in my armpit. She told me to make sure that I keep an eye out for infection.

So, that was the big/major thing that was going on for the past month.
