People can't make you happy. People can't make you believe that life is worthwhile or that there's a point to living. People can't make promises and keep them. People can't tell you everything's going to be okay and mean it. People are set up for one thing and one thing only...To let others down. To disappoint. To cause doubt and fear. I'm not saying that having certain people around won't invoke some kind of happiness within you. That their being in your life doesn't cause you joy. I'm just saying that eventually, it's likely, that even that person will fail you in some way. Hopefully not in a way that'll cause you to doubt their importance to you, because there's no light at the end of the tunnel when that happens, but they will fail. Everyone does. I guess you just have to learn to enjoy people for that small glimpse of joy that they bring. That smile that they help put on your face, for however long it's lasts. But, don't depend on it. Don't make it all that you have to feel happy about in the world. It'll break. It'll fall apart. Like I said, it always does. Find a happiness within you. A peace that knowing yourself can bring. People will come and go, but you're stuck with yourself for forever.

I think you're right. If you can't find a "partner" inside you, then you're twice as much disappointed when you're screwed over by someone. If you have yourself as a hideaway, a hideaway that you like because you're always welcome there, then you're going to be okay. You'll be able to forgive people and not be hurt too much. If you don't hate yourself, you'll never be alone.
