you wouldn't believe the faith you have\\\\\\\


Name some things you have faith in. Here are some of mine:

The sun rising and setting every day and night. The moon. The trees letting off oxygen so I can breathe. The earth staying put in it's exact perfect orbit so we can all stay alive. Flowers blooming in summer and dying in winter. These are but a few things to show that we all have faith in things we can't control or see or understand how or why it is the way it is, only that it is. I, too, have faith in god. Because even though we can't understand Him or why He does osme of the things He does or how He does them..He is still God. This was also to show that even those w/out a religious faith and claim that faith is silly (to put it mildly) - they too have faith in some things. They just may not be willing to accept it.

science isn't based on faith or belief, not saying it's bad to have faith, just that your example is flawed.

I second xander's comment. As an atheist, I've been approached with this method of thought so many times I've lost count. "Belief" and "faith" are loaded words, loaded in a way that you mean them to be. Science relies on studies and theories and facts, not beliefs or faiths. I have no Faith in anything. I have no Belief in anything. Saying, for example, "the world is round" is not a belief--it's a fact. Saying that the sun rises every day is not faith, it's a fact. There's a large difference between facts and beliefs, science and faith. But, also, in the English language, the words belief and faith are not just valid in a religious context.

Science is based on the scientific method of observation and experimentation. Evidence and proof are the keys to everything in science. For something to even become a theory it requires extensive evidence to be present. Faith on the other hand requires nothing other than just belief, regardless of evidence.

Again, not saying faith is a bad thing. It can be a bad thing, science too can be a bad thing. It all depends on who's using it and for what purpose.

You have faith in those things because you can physically observe those things happening. With your eyes.

RYC: It's very much so the point. The logic used in this very entry suggest that your faith in the observable world allows you to have faith in a God, (or even vice versa) and neither have anything to do with each other, because neither are in the same plane of existence. I'm not sitting here telling you God doesn't exist, but if your logic suggests that your faith comes purely from the existence of the physical world, where we have evidence of pretty much everything's origins after the extinction of the dinosaur, then it's simply not enough.
