4th of July weekend

07/05/2011

Too tired to spellcheck and I am sure I left a lot out but this was way long enough

People in this play
My parents, Justin (my twin) Lindsay (his wife) Amanda (sister) Staci (her gf)
Robert (older bro) Angela, Amanda O, Corry, Anthony (Corry’s husband) all Amanda’s friends
John (my best friend) Kat (his wife) Holden ( their 2 yr old) Grace (baby on the way)
Glenn and Maryellen (parents friends) Jennifer and peter (their two children) Shelby Kallif (2 of Jen’s children)
George and Clare (friends of George and Mayellen)

Saturday July 2nd

Hung around the beach house since it was overcast and people “moved” in.
Went for Mexican for dinner with Justin Lindsay, myself, Anthony Corry Angela Amanda and Staci.
The waiter was hitting on Anthony W “how would you like your stake?” A “so I can eat it” W “you’re cute”
Justin asked for ice tea. After the second one, he he asked if he could have a pitcher of ice tea. The waiter said they don’t do that… but he was able to bring one out. He was one of the best waiters I ever had. He would frequently check on us and was timely on the returns. All the food game out perfect. Justin pointed out that the light was brighter on one side of the table, our waiter over heard it and said “want me to make it brighter? Because I can”

Last year Angela was not around and everything that went wrong, they blamed her for it.
This year, Amanda O is in Madrid for work, so anything that went wrong, they blamed her for it

I wanted ice cream but we did not get any. (It’s at the top of the street the beach house is on)
My parents were out for Glenn’s b day and didn’t get back till after midnight.

They all played Apples to Apples. My sister said I could be on Justin’s team. (um, right, not a teamgame) So I just sat there as they played. It was boring for the most part with a few laughs.

Sunday July 3rd

John, Kat and Holden came up and got there about noon time
I was watching Tennis. Then we walked down to the subshop a few blocks away. Had lunch there. Listened to the red sox game. Got ready to go to the Gloucester Parade and then we piled in two cars and headed over to watch the parade. It was lightly raining on-off. We stayed in the cars for most of the time. I stayed in the entire time. I was bored except when Holden entertained me with his 2 year old questions and responses.
We went to a pizza place that we traditionally went to between the parade and the fireworks on the 3rd. They had a new owner. It was totally different. Gone was the waitresses, the awesome salad dressing and yes, even my favorite pizza. It was totally different. It was a great disappointment for all.

We went down to the beach to watch the fireworks. It was boring for the most part for me. Actually, more like disturbing. So I just stood there. My older brother who was standing right behind me says “don’t be grumpy” I’m not grumpy “yes you are. It must be past your bedtime or something” why do you say I’m grumpy? “because you are. (I think it was because I wasn’t expressively enjoying the fireworks. Sorry, standing and listening to “bangs!” isn’t my idea of fun)

We went back to the house. John, Kat and holden went home and so did Rob. I went on the computer and everyone else was playing beer pong. *a lot of the few days I felt like Rudalph because I couldn’t play in any of the Reindeer games)

Monday July 4th

The girls went down to the beach, Justin and Lindsay went down to THE Neck. (a section of the town tht has these old time shops.) Anthony and I hung back at the house.

We were on the portch, just talking about random things. Somehow the topic of poetry writing came up. He said that a poem he wrote in hs, won a contest and was published. I was all excited (hope I didn’t show it oo much lol) I showed him a few of my poems. He thought they were sweet (oh Stephanie) deep (hillside) Fucking hillerious (piano bar in the happiness hotel)
Soon after reading the happiness hotel one, his mother called him. He talked to her for a bit then told her that he had to read her a poem that “Alpo’s brother wrote that is fucking hillerious” (my sister’s nickname is alpo) He was laughing as he was reading it to her. He said to me after that he wants me to publish it. Before he left that day, he says “ I will give you a deadline of a year to publish your poems”

Listen to red sox game and enjoyed the bbq. My cousin Ellen and her husband Donny came.
First Donny was talking to Anthony. (Donny is 50 and Anthony is 26.) They have a lot in common it was crazy. They are both use hockey fans and both played hockey till engeries-sergeries ended both of their hs careers. They both ride motorcycles and both been in multiple accedents and both continue to ride. Actually, they are both not working right now that I am thinking of it They talked for about 45 minutes…mostly Donny talking. . Then Corry got pulled in to the conversation (she’s a nurse) about all Donny’s engeries.

I went out side to listen to the gaem on the radeo and have lunch (the bbq) and donny followed Anthony and I. Donny was talking and talking and… I was trying to listen to my red sox game but he’s not good at listening. He told me about various countries’s defenses, his engeries and surgeries in more details, about my disability and me not being able to find a job, about coaching his son in youth hockey and coaching a minor league hockey team. He talked about his career of working in the iron construction business and how he was able to lift a 12 story building to put on top of another. He said it took him a week and he told me how he did it. He said that he wasin such a demand that construction companies from other states were trying to loor him away but his company was paying him too much money that he could not walk away. He also talked about guns and hunting and after retiring how he has to seek counseling himself.

George was being honored with the title of Grand Martial of the parade.
(I still don’t know what that means and how he got the honor) Glenn was asked if George and his wife Clare could ride in his wife’s car. I don’t remember why not, something with the car, but he said that it wouldn’t work out but my mom has a nice car and he would ask her if they could use her car. My mom said yes and she was friends through Glenn with him and his wife. My mom did not want to drive it in the parade but she knew the perfect person who would love it.
She asked John and the attention seeking whore he is, he jumped all over it. To drive a 2010 blue convertible in the parade. On the way over to the starting point, John wisled and said “there are 4 girls in bikinis” then laughed because he knows how ticked off that makes me that he can see these 4 beautiful women in bikinis and I cant. (He’s a jerk)He also heard that George likes cigars so as John was smoking before the parade, he offered George one. He said maybe.

So John and I were in the front and the grand martial and his wife were in the back.
They were clearly drunk. So the parade was on the way and we were near the beginning. John said “I was hoping I was going to drive the prom queen but I guess you’ll have to do.” Clair said “I was a prom queen back in my day” John: that’s good enough for me.”
Clair kept saying-slering “this is so embarrising” “They should put an S at the end, It should be grand martials” and they both asked a few times in different ways if we had any rum onboard.
There was a good chance of rain and we kept the top down when it was lightly raining, but at one point it got heavy so we put it up. We past where my family was standing and my mom told John that in two blocks in their family so it would be ok to put down the top for them. It had lighten up but it was still a light but steady rain. Their family came over to the car, taking pictures and cheering.
Near the end of the parade, we put the top up and just in time for it to be raining dogs and cats.

The parade ends at a beach where they have a stack of wood set up about 15 ft high for a bonfire. It use to be much much higher than that in years past.
However, do to the rain, we didn’t think the bonfire would happen. George had locked his keys in his truck so he asked if we could drive them to his house to get a spare keys. John said no problem. It was only around the corner and down the street a bit. As we are driving George says “would you two like to come in for a drink?” John doesn’t drink and well… it was a very awkward situation etc. I got out of the car to let them out… in the poring rain. And when they got back in the car and again when we got them to their car. I told John “stay away from them” he goes “no shit”

We went back to Glenn’s house that is on the water. He has a pool table, an outside hottub on the first deck where his grill and tables-chairs are. . The other two decks are to see out into the water. If I had to guess, I would say this house cost them more than 2 millian dollars.

John, Kat holden and Justin and lindsay went home at that point as there was probably no bonfire and they had to go to work the next morning. I’m not sure at what point Rob went home but he stayed for a bit. He called Glenn and Marihellen’s son who well, it’s a sad story because I remember growing up and he would play tennis with Justin and we would talk spors and play Nintendo then at some point he started doing drugs and drinking and he developed Bipola and still has a major drinking issue. Rob handed me the phone and said Peter wants to say hi. I said hi. He goes “whats up Hulkamania. How are you?... it was really sad what happened to the marcho man… I miss you man… ok, bye” was basicly his side of the conversation. He sounded drunk. It’s sad.

John and I were in the convertible, some people were in my father’s emergency truck but others… weren’t so dry. My mom and older bro along with Ellen and Marryhellen and others… were soked to the bone. Rob actually ringed out his shirt over the deck. There was a lot of illegal fireworks being lit off. (fireworks are illegal in MA) but they were clearly seen by the deck of Glenn’s house.

Shelby, who John thought was only 14 or so, (years go by fast) and she dresses like a tramp and has the body that would make a gay man hard…. My mom told me last month that she had trouble finding a dress for her prom because her boobs were so big. (like I need to know that?) She came with her bf about 30 minutes into the bbq. Amanda said to her “what college are you going to?” well, this confermed that she was a sr in hs.

I was sitting at the table with Donny, Ellen, Angela and Staci. Amanda is the DG. (designated griller) There was some really funny moments. One being when Donny for some reason, brought up Ellen’s bf before him. My mom said that Ellen’s eyes bugged out of her head when Donny said the bf’s name. We got the entire story of how he won her over. It sounded like it was by threat lol. OH! He was talking about old music that he thinks is really good. He then plays on his phone a song and says “I sang this song to Ellen on our first date” Ellen said “you didn’t sing it to me”

Angela, staci and myself started listing things that went wrong that we could blame Amanda O for including the crappy weather. Because if she was here, the weather would have been perfect.

There was drama with the grill. First the tank ran out of gas then with the new tank, the food was slow to be cooked.
Within the first 10 minutes of being there. MarriHellen went into the house and said… Jon, you are going to love the chickenwings. I forgot to turn the stove off before I left for the parade and they are black. (I was In my glory. I love burnt meats) I only had 16 of them… I also had a burger and some type of cherry-blue berry cobbler.

The bonfire actually did go off some how on time. We all stayed back at the house. You could see it from the deck. I wasn’t so happy that John went home early. It is the one time a year I get to see more than black because I stand in the front row and with the brightness and magnitude of the fire, I don’t have to focus my vision on the pinhole of vision I have, I can see the orange fire.

At some point after the Bonfire, a bunch of people came including Kallif. He’s Shelby’s younger brother and there is a second sister but no idea where she was. Well Kallif is well, strange. No one likes sitting next to him because he talks about anything and will continue to talk. I guess he is probably about 12. But this evening, he didn’t say much. He was just saying hi to people and had a conversation about his day with his grand mother… Marihellen.

About midnight, Angella had to go because she had to work the next day and had a 30 min ride. My mom offered to drive her to the beach house to pick up her car. I told my mom that I was ready to go back too. So I said my byes and thank-yous. And I went back to the beach house, checked out sports stuff and tried to sleep. I managed to get 5 hrs. the best of the 3 nights I was up there. Maybe because I got a bed since Angela went home.

And that my friends… was my forth of july vacation

I feel bad that you had to stand there and listen to fireworks. The sounds are horrible, but the view is amazing. I wish you could experience that. It does sound like you had a very fun filled eventful weekend though, and I'm glad for that! Mine was the same way except I had to work a lot too.

Also, I think I live in a different world than most people I know.

Ryc: that kinda sounds like a fairytail to me. We are very different, I'm not sure I would feel like I could be myself around you and your family. Not everyone I know is like my family but a lot of them are pretty close....

Well if we don't have anything else in common at least we have baseball. That's the most important thing anyway, haha!
