A backpack full of painful memories
6-22-2010

I Saw this girl sitting at the bus shelter
I felt so bad, maybe I should stop and help her.
She was about 16 years old
She looked pretty cold
She was wearing a t-shirt and jeens
But that didn’t begin to tell the story of this teen

She looked sad as she stared into space
She was wearing a blank face
An old faded shirt
You could tell she was hurt
Long dark hair, streaked in blue
No socks but worndown shoes
She was used and abused,
Running away from her family of booze

What I am not seeing
What she is hiding
What she is carrying

A damaged brain
A broken heart
An empty soul
And a backpack full of painful memories
