Football, food, family and friends, who could ask for more?
The people started ariving at 1pm and by 2, most were there. I was dragged out of my "bat cage" to socialize... or rather, sit in the kitchen while people try to make conversation with me over the other people and the football game which I could hear maybe a word or two every few minutes but there was others watching the game with me so they gave me some updates as the game went along.
At first, there was crackers and cheese and veggies and dips.
Then the food came. I am going to list just what I remember. Eggroles, mom made chicken wings, mom made Kielbasa with cherries and pineapple, baby hotdog roled up. (my uncle Joe and I did those the night before and they came out good) mom made Sweetish meatballs, pizza bagel bites for the kids and of course... Latkes!
Eventually, the food was eaten and then put away and now it was time for the Candles.
With the youngest in the front, I was in the back of the croud with John on my left and my Par on my right. (for 93, he remembers a few of the words) and then... it was present time! However, since there was so many of us, the little kids got their's first and the bigger kids got theirs and eventually my sibs and I gave our parents an American express gift card for a nice dinner for when they go to fl in a couple of weeks.
My mom gave us kids each 80 dollars towards a ticket broker place, on the same line as ticket master, so we could pick out our own games. My aunt gave me a Boston Celtic's t-jersey and my grand parents gave us kids each 50 dollars. My sibs and I had an agreement that we would not buy each other gifts. However, I had bought my twin and sis in law a gift 6 weeks ago, way before we agreed and since I didnt want to spoil the surprise, I went along with no present buying.
Does anyone know the group "mighty mighty bosstones"? Well, for the 13th year, they are having their anual "holiday throw down" and my twin is a huge fan of theirs. Well, I knew that he was cutting back on concerts this year because they couldnt afford it. The tickets for the concert went on sale when they were on their honeymoon back in OCT. I figured I could clear some of my to buy list, if I bought Justin, Lindsay, my best friend John tickets. I talked to Justin's friend Jeff about it and he said he'd want to go too. So I bought 4 tickets and gave them the tickets tonight. Justin and Lindsay were very happy.
Now... it was also Jalen's 12th b day. So we had a cake for him. We all chipped in to get him a gift that he was saving up for and was going to buy after chanukah. (of course everyone knew except him) when he opened it he was like... "are you kidding me?!" It was the new "connect for x-box" Then he thanked us indivisually.
After we all had some cake and more time passed, it was time for the Redsox swop. (we dont use the "Y" word in the house) So everyone took a number, all the gifts people brought for the swop was on the dining room table and the swopping begin. We play it where person who had #1 picked a gifts. they would unrap it and then #2 would go, if they liked what #1 got, they could swop. #3 picked, opened and if they wanted to swop with 1 or 2 they could. All the way down the line till all 20 numbers went and then the person with #1, got to go last and pick what ever they wanted. I had origenally got some type of friendship jewlory thingy and I swopped it for scratch tickets but someone swopped it for dunk and donuts card and that is what I ended up with. I am happy with it. It is something I could use.
OK, now it was time for dessert. Marilyn and family had sent an edable arangement in the morning as a "thank you" to my mom for helping out with the temple's Chanukah party the night before. so my mom put that out. Stupidly, she put it in front of me. I started picking at it till they moved it away from me. (I LOVE fruits) My mom had bought an apple cider vodka and she was like... who wants a shot of (what ever the name was) so she was handing them out. I was the first. it was omg good. my sister didnt like the smell so I shoot hers and then Bobbie, who I doubt had any, gave me hers as well. It was very good going down but after a bit, I was getting hot and getting a headache so I said my good nights and went to bed at... 8pm. (in my own defense, i had been up since 4AM)
So now I lay here just after 3AM writing all this down.
It was a very nice time.
I always love when these big holiday gatherings happen even though I cant hear half the time, it is still nice to be around so many people who love you, care about you and have fun.
