fenway park date

07/24/2012

ok, I guess I owe my wonderful bloop buddies an entry.

The Fenway Park Date

hmm I was waiting out side and she came about ten mins early. I stood and walked to her car and walked around the other side and got in myself. We said our hi's. Unfortunately, the conversations were a bit awkward for most of the night. It seemed as we were playing 20 questions rather than having conversations.

I hd brought my handicap parking ticket so we could park for free about 2 blocks from the stadium. We did get in some trafic heading into Boston but we got there plenty early. We got to the area and she was looking for parking and she said "I'll just pull in here" I didnt know what she was doing. I soon found out as there was a man at her window saying "45 dollars" she was parking in a lott! and 45! dollars!?! I was just stunned. She paid it though. The guy working the lott seemed like a creap but eh, she wanted to park there. So she took off her other keys and just left her car key behind and we walked to the park in almost silents. I'm glad I was using my cain properly, she wasnt telling me where the cracks in the side walk was or where the steps were. We got to our seats, which she had paid for, and at some point, I said, that I'm paying for dinner. you paid enough. She just said "ok" The time we got to the seats, we were about an hour early. We talked a little bit. Then eventually the reason I wanted to attend this particular game...

they were honoring the captain of the Boston Red Sox who retired this year after a 15 year career, guiding us to 2 world series and being the only catcher to catch 4 no hitters from 4 different pitchers. Jason Varitek was the heart, soul and captain of the team on and off the field and in the comunity ...and as we learn a few moments later, at home too. He has 4 young daughters, the oldest being about 12 and the youngest 8 weeks. They read a list of his acompishments on and off the field. They introduced many of the people who helped him along the way including his little league coach, his college coach and his fall ball instructor. The red sox handed him a check for his foundation in the amount of 25,000. A car company gave him a new 2013 minny van so he can "bus around all your ladies" David ortiz, an all star for the red sox who played the last 9 years with Tek, came out and gave him two chairs from fenway park. (ortiz is number 34 and tek 33) so he gave him seats 33-34 so "we will always be together" There was some people who couldnt make it, but sent along video, Nomar, Derik Lowe and the one that shocked me the most Larry Bird "from one 33 to another..." Tim Wakefield, another former player who retired this year gave him a new set of golf clubs so they could go golfing. Before they handed the mic over to Jason Varitek to say something, each of his 3 oldest daughters had something to say...(ok, I got a little teery eyes) one of the girls said "at home, you are our dad. thank you for taking us to soccer games, picking us up from school and brushing our hair, getting out the knots...." Varitek was the last to speak, thanking everyone who made him who he is today and thanking the fans, the best fans ever.

I had turned to Ruth and said "thank you for taking me to this game. I really appreciate it"

Then it was game time.
I followed along for a few innings on the radeo and would try to have something of a conversation but the silent times were ffar out weighing the talking time. ...

I was getting hungry about the 3rd inning and asked her if she was hungry. She said no but I'll go get something for you if you want. I had her get me my usual and gave her money. She got a pretzle for herself, but that was all.

By the 6th inning I was feeling really bad that we werent talking so I took off my head phones for most of the rest of the game, the only exception was when I couldnt tell by the crowd what was happening.

I could tell you things we talked about but it wasnt really much and like I said at the beginning, it wasnt like back-forth conversations, it was questions for the most part.

The red sox were losing going into the 9th inning 7-3, or something so I said to her we could leave to beat the croud. So we did. Again, wasnt much chatter on the way to the car. The few times I said something sarcastic either she didnt get it as sarcasm and she would say something in response or she said nothing.

We did chat on te way home for most of the ride.
However, like the last date, she made no move to get out of the car to talk me to the door or anything. I asked her for a hug and she gave me a hug. I got out, walked to the door and that was the night.

so I dont know ... I went her a pic of my nephew, she said "mazel tov to your family"

so she's a very nice lady and she's Jewish and smart but doesnt have the right personality for me.

I want an outgoing, effectionate, chatty lady

From the sounds of it, you can do better! Glad you got to go to the game tho.

Maybe she's just nervous? I don't know. It sounds like it was a pretty epic game though. Sorry the conversation was kind of bland. I wouldn't give up on her just yet. Maybe you can crack her out of her shell and she can turn into a more chatty date. She might just be nervous!
