M I C! ... training

02/21/2011

My first attempt at writing this didnt save so of course, I'm only writing the abridged version.

So saturday my college roommate Jeff and his twin 5 year old girls, picked me up and we went for chinese food.
From there we went on the train into boston... was the girls' first time. They thought it was boring lol
We got to our destination, we were about 20 minutes late but the girls didnt really know any better. we told them that we were only a few mins late.

They had NO IDEA what we were doing. It was a surprise to them.

We walked into the boston Gardin, (the sporting arena, not the boston public gardin)
I thought we had balcony seats but the person on the elevator said 4th floor and I knew that was event level. So I figured paying only 27 dolars a seat maybe we were against the back wall. they told us to go down ... we had unbelieveable seats. we were in like row 15?

Disney presents... Toy Story III on ice!

it was spectacular as always.
This is my 29th time going in the last 30 years. when I was 16, I thought I was too mature for disney on ice... I regret not going that year.

if you never seen disney on ice, it is like a movie played out on ice.

They had lots of singing and dancing and interacting with the croud.

My favorite part... right before intermision, mickey, minny, donald and gooffee came out. Since we missed the beginning, we missed them coming out at the beginning.

M I C! see you round soon
K E Y! why? because we like you
M O U S E! mickey mouse!

The girls enjoyed it. I enjoyed it more though lol.

Hopefully I can take them again next year

*********************************************

I am teaching a training on tuesday and wednesday. It's the same one I tought in november and I was trained on over the last summer. It's called NAPPI. it stands for non abusive, psychological and physical intervention.

It's a two day program which I teach with a team of coworkers from my company to teach anyone who is new to the compnay who who's certification is up and needs to be recertified.

I teach the SMART and the GREEN programs.

Smart prgram
(according to manual, takes 30-40 mins to teach)

SMART stands for...
S staying one step ahead and stay safe
M move one step at a time
A always make it safer
R refocus attention
T Together with tlc and using the minimal impact concept: respecting coworkers and using the least amount of force to control a client. If someone is banging their hand against the table, first step is destracting them, if that doesnt work, maybe put a pillow under their hand. ...

GREEN scale

(this, according to the manual, takes 60-80 minutes to teach)

High quality of life
productivity
caring comunities

we have to put as much of these into our client's lives as we can.

first step I do is ask "what makes your life worth living?"
someone will have to write the answers on the board for me
Then I define each of the 3 categories and give at least 2 examples of each.
I ask them what would it be like if you didnt have these things in your life? then I ask: what is it like to have these things in your life?

The idea is that the more of these things they have, the more they will be happy and feel good about themself etc and the less likely it is for them to become vilent.

GREEN EXERCIZE

(manual says this takes 20-30 minutes)

in short, I give the class an example of how we can take a simple activity and make it "greener". for example,

we have a movie night

How can we make this greener?
(productivity...) they can have snacks. ok, they deside which snacks, ok, now they go to the store, they feel productive, they feel like "I matter"
ok, how can they make it greener?
they can invite family and friends over. (caring comunity) and they can write letters to invite them. (again, productivity) While at the store, one of the clients saw a box of browny mix and desided they can make brownies for everyone. ...

so on and so on and before you know it, one person watching a movie becomes a big social gathering.

So after my example, I have my class get into groups and come up with examples and then they share ihem with the class.

I take questions about the green scale and about making things greener and that my friends, is what I will be doing in front of 20 or more people. I hope I do a lot better than the last time.

NOW! the thing that makes this a lot more dificult for me compared to my coworkers, they can read from their manual, they can look at the board and even if their is nothing on it, it may jog their memory so they know what comes next.

for me, I have to memorize everything word for word.
the manual breaks it downs into steps, and believe you-me, what I wrote here is just the core of what is in these programs.

AND then thursday I am working at the house and then... I can get ready for my birthday extended weekend!

I sure wish I had a lady of my own to enjoy it with...
