My email to my new cousin and the return email

07/30/2009

If you read my last entry than you know that I met over the weekend a cousin of mine from NJ that prior to last year, I never knew I even had. I promased her I would keep in touch via email.

HI Hayley, It's Jonathan. I told you I'd email you.

I am so happy that we got to meet and hang out but more so, the happiness I
heard in your voice (even though you seem like the type of lady who is
always perky, hehe) knowing you have this wonderful and crazy family here
only 6? hours away, makes me smile.
YOU, gave me an even greater scents of family value.

As you  could probably tell, I am considered the quiet  one of the family
but with Amanda and Heidi around, it is hard to get a word in so I learned
to listen and put my cents in where ever I can unless I have a strong
opinion, I'll make sure to put 2 cents in.

I have been telling everyone about this sweet, fun, caring cousin that prior
to last year (when  my mom went to the party?) that I didn't even know I had
and all the fun we had in the very short time we  got to  hang out.
Including playing skiball. (I'll have to practice more)

I hope you enjoyed your time here and  getting to meet and hang out with the
family as much as you seemed you did.
You are always welcomed to come and stay when ever you and Anthony can get a
few days away or maybe, and hopefully, for some of the Jewish Holidays.
You'll love our Chanukah  party with the RedSox swop. (you know, instead of
a yankee swop?) And our huge pass over Seder. We go around the dining room
table, everyone reading a paragraph or two. Uncle Joe (or Joe from NY as you
know him) always seems to get the part where he has to read a list of the
Rabbis. Since he is not really Jewish, he had a hard time at first, but
somehow, year after year, the part always ended up coming to him, he got a
hang of pronouncing the names.

I am not sure what you have been told about me but  I am a mental health
counselor, trying to get supervision to be  a licensed mental health
counselor but can not find any one who wants to hire me and give me
clinical supervision. I currently only work 4 hours a week.

When I am not working or looking for a job I am listening to sports, music
and writing poetry.

Take care and say HI to Anthony for me.

love with hugs

Cousin Jonathan

**************************************
Hello Cousin!!

I am so happy to be in receipt of your email and thrilled to have had the chance to meet and get to know you!  You cannot imagine how much it means to be
back in touch with family held so dear.  My mother and your Aunt Sara were very close - like two peas in a pod and the love she had for Sara and your mother
was immeasurable.  Had she not passed I dare say I would have known you much sooner, but the joy of returning to the family after so much time is immense.
Did you know I almost grew up in Revere?  Sara and Gabe wanted to raise me after my mother died.  My father couldn't bear giving me up and he and I were
each other's lives until he passed a few years ago.  Sitting on the beach with Heidi the other day I actually thought how different my life could have
been.

I sort of got the sense you were the quiet one.  I was thrilled that you ventured out of your "bat cave" as the family calls it, to take the time to get
to know Anthony and me.  I appreciate it and I want you to know it made me feel very special.  And kudos to you - you are quite the bowler.  I think I
was on a streak of beginner's luck and doubt I could beat you again

Your mother had written me that you are a counselor and how proud she is of you.  I'm sure you hear the love in her voice when she speaks of you and she call
you "my Jonathan".  I'm not sure what you can see, but her eyes light up.  How long have you been waiting for the clinical supervision for your license?

You have me pegged, I am rather perky, lol.  I'm the sensitive one of the family - the great feeler.  I feel things very deeply and have been known to cry
at Hallmark commercials.  I should have been an actress as I can cry on command; I have this ability to channel my feelings.  And would you believe I can sometimes be shy?  I have my quiet moments.  I'm not much into sports.  I am not a Yankees fan, so I have that going for me.  I do like hockey, not sure
why, but I do and am a fan of our Jersey Devils, although I don't follow the games.  I love movies, books and music and am probably a fan of your poetry although I haven't read any of it yet.  So please send me some samples.  What kinds of music do you listen to?  Who are your favorites?  I love classic rock; Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Beatles.  I am a HUGE Pink Floyd fan.  I also love Dave Matthews and Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon.  I was quite the little headbanger back in high school, but have mellowed some with age....Stop me at anytime, because I could just go on and on here.

One thing is certain; now that I have you all back in my life I am unwilling to let you all go.  I am only about 4 1/2 hours away without traffic.  It's actually quite an easy drive if you can avoid the city.  We would love to come for Passover.  Joe was prepping me for it from first we met.  I don't know,
maybe he has some sixth sense or something, lol.

I'm going to return to work now, although I would rather continue typing to you, lol.  The papers are beginning to pile up on my desk   Anthony sends
his hellos.  He just popped his head in my office and I said with a smile "Jonathan wrote me!  And not just a line or two, he sent me a whole letter!!"
So please keep the correspondence coming!

love with big hugs right back,

Cousin Hayley Sue
