my first concert at fenway park

09/10/2011

I just got back from seeing an awesome concert

Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Drop Kick Murphy's at My home away from home... Fenway park!

Two Boston Ska bands who are both really fun bands.
I went with my twin Justin, his wife Lindsay, my best John and his wife Kat, and my cousin Heidi and her son Jalen. Then a friend of Justin's Jeff, and me.

I think I missed out on a lot by not being able to see because they were getting their moves on, on stage. anywho...

I'll be honest, I didnt know too many songs. MMB I know "the empression that I get" and I recognized two others but couldnt sing a single line from them but it was fun
Dicky Barrett was telling a story about how he grew up in (my mind went blank, but it's about 20 mins south of boston) and there was nothing to do so he'd always f around. The only thing he really cared about was coming up here to Fenway park and seeing a game. We werent ritch so guess where we sat? right where you guys are sitting, in the bleachers so the moral of this story is, F around in the bleachers!'

later on he told another story. "Growing up here in Boston and being a big Red Sox fan, I always dreamed of playing a gig at Fenway park and now here I am, I want to thank you for making my dream come true"

The other story I remember he told was thanking drop kick murphy's for asking him if he wanted to play in fenway park and here we are. thank you Drop Kick Murphy's for putting this together. it is wicked awesome"

Drop kick murphy's sang a few songs I knew, "tessie" "shipping up to Boston" and one other but I was shocked they didnt play dirty water but at least they played Tessie. (a song they adapted for the red sox)

I guess? they started by coming out atop the green monster playing their bagpipes and somehow moved down to the stage.
*** I should have written this first but the stage was set up on top of the bullpen in center field and the band was facing the bleachers with the field in the background. they only sold bleacher seats for this concert. They wanted to make it intamate but still play in the ball park. In the past, Aerosmith, roling stones and dave Mathews played and they all did the oposite. they faced home plate and sold everything except the bleachers and the croud was 400 ft away, that's not what these two bands wanted***

Kasy, the lead singer, had his 88 year old grand mother in the front row and egknowledged her a few times. very cool.

He told this story... "you know how there is a player's parking lott? well since they arent here we got to park in the player's lott. Well after last night's concert, I went out to the lott and my car was not there. Now, when Stephen Tylor and the roling stones were here, did they have their car stolen? hell no. They had limos. I have my Shevvy" (band member) "had your Shevvy" (Kasy) had my Shevvy's. well, actually it was my wife's."

They also had a moment of silents for the victoms of 9-11 and for the russian plane that went down carying the Russian national Hockey team. One of the people who were killed played for Boston for a few years. After the moment of silent, they asked two women, by name, to come to the stage. Both of these women lost their husband in 9 11, and Kasy gave them each a check for 25,000

They told a story how they were in the Boston museum of fine art, doing a gig earlier in the day for 100 people. walking around, he noticed something that a lot of the paintings had in common... the guys had very small penises.

There was music too lol. they played a full set, about 22 songs but since I dont know many songs, I can tell much about the concert except for the stories that was told.
