yesterday, the NHL had their third anual "winter classic". This year it was held at Boston's Fenway Park, where the Boston RedSox play baseball. The Boston Bruins defeated the Philladulphia fliers in over time, 2-1.
My twin brother got me tickets for this "charrity" game that would be held the next day. The money would go to RedSox and bruin's Charrities. These charrities help numerous charities including "the jimmy fund". A Charity set up in 1948 for children's with cancer.
The weather was cold and snowy. I put on thmers and geens. I had on a RedSox T-shirt, then my RedSox hooded sweatshirt then my New England patriots leather jacket and somehow, I put my Boston Bruin's #34 jersey over all that. I wore two pairs of sox and of course, a winter (redsox) hat, gloves and scarf. I was ready for Alaska I think. My twin and I went over to Fenway Park and parked in a parking garage for 35 dollars. We went in the Fenway Park for the first time in 2010. We got food before we sat down. I got my sausage with peppers and onions and Justin got a hotdog with peppers and onions. We walked up the little ramp to the field. I was so excited. As always, I vissioned that first time 21 years ago, when I went to my first game at fenway Park. I could see the green field (again, in my mind) as I walked up. As I got to the top, I realized it was snowing. It must be so beautiful We went to our seats and enjoyed our food. My mouth was watering. I was savering each bite. It was so good. A bit after we finished, Justin left to get hot chocolate. While He was gone, I called and left a message on my parent's answering phone. "HI, I just had my first fenway sausage of 2010, wooo!"
One thing I loved, One of the bruin's TV announcers did a play-by-play in house over the fenway park PA system. So my brother didnt have to say a word. There was a lot of interviews before and during the game.
There was also a smaller rink nest to the big rink that some hockey youth teams got to skate around on. That was cool for them.
The format of the game was two 30 minutes halfs.
There was plenty of scoring, which I like, plus that in house commintator. He would remark on players as they touched the puck. "X is bringing up the buck. He was in X Part of X movie" Or ocationally they would be refered to as their tv-movie names.
During one of the player's interview during the game the guy goes " I had something to say. It is only two words... yankees suck" The croud arupted in cheers and then chanted for about 2 minutes streight "yankees suck!"
We had bought raffle tickets for a 50-50 and we desided to leave after they would announce the winner as we had bought 10 dollars worth. We did not win. However, as we were waiting by the entrence, some fan came down to let me kknow I had the best jersey here. It was a bit funny. He was apoligizing for it. "I am sorry, I came all the way from up there and I had to tell youthat you have tbe best"
That was pretty cool.
We had left when the score was 7-4 and only 10 minutes to go in the game.
I had a great time and lucky I went. I defanately wont forget it any time soon.
