My sister's wedding 10-13-13

10/21/2013

Someone’s getting married

10-13-13
My sister Amanda and her partner Stacie got married and what a beautiful and amazing-fun wedding-celebration.

They got married in Gloucester MA, in a country club that overlooks the ocean.

We got to the hall and we were the first ones there. My twin was an usher, I was asked to do the blessing over the wine in both Hebrew and English. I didn’t know I was going to do the English till the day before and although I heard it my entire life, I always did just the Hebrew, so I was a bit nervous about that but mostly honored-excited. My older brother would do the blessing for the bread and my younger cousin Jalen, he was handing out the Yamulkes. (the Jewish hat men wear) So anyways, my brother sat me down and described the hall a bit before he had to go do his duty. There is a high almost floor to ceiling window that overlooks the water. On the windowsills was beautiful candles. There was fancy chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and the room was set up for a lot of people. Well, there was between 250-270 at the wedding.

Everyone was sitting and then…the wedding began.
The flower girl, the ring bearer, Stacie’s Maid of honor and the other bride’s maids then Amanda’s Maid of honor and her Bride’s maids. Then Stacie and then my sister Amanda.
The Rabi talked a bit about what happens at Jewish weddings and what some of the symbolism are and they gave their vows. They exchanged rings. Then I was asked to come to the front to say the blessing. I got up and one of my brothers led me up. I faced the crowd. My sister handed me the glass of wine. She said to talk very loud, I asked if I should do the Hebrew or English first, she said the English. I Did what I remembered and if I missed a word, no one cared-noticed lol. And then I did the Hebrew. My sister told me to take a sip of the wine and as I started to bring the glass to my lips I heard my mom say out loud “don’t drink it all” lol.

They each took a sip of the wine, They broke the glass. And we all shouted (those few of us who knew to) MAZAL TOV!

Reception…PARTY TIME!

The reception was down stairs of where the wedding was held but we had to take family pictures. We went out on the deck and took pictures. I’m sure the photos were very nice.

As we were walking in, a friend of the family asked me if I wanted a drink, he was buying. (first hour was open bar lol) I said sure. We went and had to get in line. I got a martini. My best friend found me and stuck by my side. He didn’t know many other people. As I was sipping, random people, some who told me their names some who didn’t so I didn’t know who some were and just said hi and thank you and yes it is a nice time. The guy who got me the drink noticed I was almost done and asked if I wanted another, so we went up and got another and we went back and stood with my best friend. He was trying to distinguish the lesbians from the non-lesbians. Lol he said to me “Jonathan, no kidding there are 2 woman who are bigger than me” (he’s 6-2 260?) One of my twin’s friend’s, Travis, who came in from San Diego was also on this distinguishing thing with John lol. Right before I sat down, John brought me up to get another Martini. (#3) We sat down, had dinner. During the dinner they announced all the wedding party people and they all came in and we all cheered them and my older brother got up and said the blessing for the bread in both English and Hebrew. (hmm that had to be right before the dinner was served… hmm anywho) We had champagne. My best friend John who doesn’t drink alcohol at all, offered his champagne to me so I drank his too. (3 M’s and 2 S’s now)

I don’t remember, I think it was my mom who got me on the dance floor but once I got up there, I only left 2 times. Once for the bathroom and Once for dessert. I was dancing with anyone who was in front of me-took my hand or … even by myself lol. I don’t get to dance like that often so when I do, I don’t like to get off the floor. (why would I? what would I do? just sit in my chair? No fun there) There was a good mix of new-ish songs and late-80’s early 90’s RNB like BBD’s “poison” Sir mix a lot “baby got back” and the new-ish some “lucky”?. However, the party was over much too early for my liking. I understand you rent a hall by a time slot but it was over at 9:30 and I was wanting to go till midnight lol.
It was a lot of fun. I danced with my sister. That was very nice.

POST PARTY! Ooo yes please

So my sister had rented out the little meeting room back at the hotel for the post party celebration. It holds about 100 people. A friend of my dad’s noticed people were just standing around and asked someone who worked there if there was any tables-chairs and the person opened a door to a storage room and said there you go? So my dad’s friend Al, went to work and pulled out-set up about 8 big round tables. OH, my sister had ordered pizzas too. So my twin and his wife along with myself, on the way back to the hotel picked up the pizzas. My sister wasn’t anticipating so many people back to the hotel, she only got like 3 pizzas. So I had a few slices.

People were just sitting in clicks I guess. I sat at a table and people, hmm it must have been the random table as there was a friend of my dad’s and a friend of my mom’s and a friend of my sister at the table. I mean, random people came over to sit and chat with me-people at the table.

A friend of my mom’s was drinking wine and offered me a glass, I accepted. It was some type of red sweet wine, it was very good.

And then… then was the talk of the after party.
A friend of my dad’s had made this shot drink called “apple pie in a jar” and asked me if I wanted a shot. OMFG it was amazing! I had another shot. This stuff was really good. My mom’s friend asked him what was in it.

Apple juice, Apple Cider, Sinnamon sticks and Everclear (190 proof… can’t buy it in MA) I had a 3rd shot it was so amazingly good. You could not taste the alcohol. He had made a gallon of it and when it was almost gone, he asked me if I wanted one more shot. I said sure. He warned me that it would be strong. I said that’s ok… hell ya it was strong. It was good lol. So I knew at this point I was drunk. However, my sister’s friend Angela was saying how the wedding cake was over there and that she was going to get a slice. I said that sounds good. She said you want me to get you a slice? I said yes, but just a small slice. I ate the cake and looked at Angela and said yup, I’m definitely done. She goes hmm? I said, I couldn’t taste the cake. I’m definitely drunk. Lol.
The party was wrapping up about a half hour later and I went up to bed. It was 1:30 AM.

It was a fun and exciting and happy and beautiful day
my sister and new sister in law put together a great wedding day

Sounds like a great time. You are my kinda guy who doesn't leave the dance floor! Can't stand guys that don't dance at things like that. I want some apple pie in a jar.

Congrats to your sister and her new wifey.

Sounds like a beautiful wedding!!!! The pics were just as gorgeous as your description! and yes...apple pie in a jar is freaking delicious! I tasted the alcohol a smidge when I had it but it probably all depends on who makes it lol

That apple pie shot sounds like something we make down here in the south called hunch punch. It's made with juice, fresh fruit and ususlly vodka or rum. You won't know you're drunk until your dancing naked, lol.
