Yesterday (Monday) was my best friend (john)’s wife b day party. (Kat)
(today is her actual b day)
We went to her parents house. John, Kat and Holden picked me up at 2pm. The time we are suppose to be at the house. I asked Kat how big bird was. John and Kat were like… who’s big bird? I said the baby. John goes “you fucking idiot, why would you call it big bird? I said why? What would you call it? John: the baby. Then I learn the baby has a name. (news to me) Gracy. It’s a nice name. Later at the party, I learn the name is going to be Gracy Ann. We get to the house the same time her sister and sister’s bf get there (Kris and Rich) They had brought some books for Holden.
We go in and Kat’s parents greet us and I sit on the couch in their den and others follow my lead. John is on his laptop and Kat complains to him. He is saying that he is doing emails for work and she is saying “cant you do that later. You should be socializing” John gives her a sarcastic response then goes back to the computer. Rich is playing with Holden on Rich’s phone. At some point John’s mother and her husband show up. I do the small talk. When the conversation turns to baseball I jump in. Kat’s mother is in the kitchen preparing dinner and her father is out manning the grill.
At some point John is asked to put together the double stroller. Kat asks him if he is going to use the directions. He said something sarcastic. Kat, in a discusted tone says “don’t men ever read directions?” to which me and Rich laugh. I said it’s just like a transformer. We always figured those out without directions. (It’s fun and more of an accomplishment doing it without directions) Rich and I get into a conversation about transformers. He says the one’s of today are much harder to figure out. When John was done he goes… “oh my god, I neeed to read the directions. That was so hard to figure out. Oh no what am I going to do.” (there were big pieces that wasn’t hard to put together.) John: I am sure Jonathan could put that together without directions. I said I prob could. (there was a lot of back-forth coments between John and Kat while he was putting the double stroller together. John being sarcastic and Kat being serious)
Dinner time and Kat goes “john, can you come in for dinner?” I said “of course he will, he knows there’s food.”
I don’t get this… the stake and chicken come in from the grill the same time the salad and other side dishes come out. I find it strange to have the salad come out the same time. Salad should be first but what ever. So I have a few pieces of stake. It’s pretty good. Then I go to my salad. John eats, helps me and Holden by putting food on our plates. Kat butters a corn bread for her and Holden and John takes the one that was on her dish and eats it. She yells at him. He said “what, Holden already has one” she said that was for her. He said “there are plenty more.” One thing after another they argue and Kat just keeps it going instead of ignoring him. She goes “I’m not talking to you” john: “good”
John does something a bit later, I don’t know what, maybe gives Holden another corn bread or something and Kat yells at him and John goes “I cant hear you. you are not talking to me.” So dinner gets finish and John pulls out his phone and Kat yells at him for that. “cant you socialize for once instead of being on your phone?” John “no”
Kat’s parents asked me how tx was. I said good. Kat said “why did you ask that with a look on your face?” “well, I saw the pictures of him holding the gun.” I asked her father if he saw the video. He said no, the pics were good enough.
After dinner we go back to the living room for presents. I bought her a nice card which I signed “your second husband, Jonathan” and got her a gift card to (my mind is drawing a blank on the name of the place, but she can buy beauty supplies for herself). Other people bought her things for the baby who is coming. Like… a double stroller she wanted, people gave her money towards that. Her parents also bought her thong underwear. Which, she was a little embarrassed, (expecially being pregnant lol) but she put a pair on Holden’s head and he was laughing. I cant think of what else she got. John had bought her a Coach bag, which was for her b day, their anaversery and mother’s day. John also didn’t get her a card. To which Rich says, “good job John, saving the environment.”
We went back into the kitchen for dessert. We had cake and either tea or coffee. Kat loves ice cream. (like I love Chinese food) and her mother got an icecream cake that was very good. John’s mother made some type of cake too. We sang happy birthday and for the first time, Holden wasn’t crying when the candles were lit. Kat let him blow them out. Then John lit the candles again and Holden blew them out again. HJohn did it about five times. After the 4th, Kat said “that’s enough John” so he had to do it again and Kat yelled a little louder.
Kat was talking about how she could live without him and how she could find a condo and live happily without him. John was still playing on his phone replying “ok” and “go for it” It went to finances and I know she could. She is a specialized nurse so… she makes good money. She said she could find a condo for under 200k. John said “good luck at that. … you’ll be living in Lynn” (Lynn is a hmm ghetto city for the most part) Kat said she could find a condo in nice city and she named a few. … KEEP IN MIND, BOTH OF THEIR PARENTS ARE SITTING RIGHT THERE.
After dessert, Holden wants to go for a walk and so Holden in the stroller, Kat, John, Holden and myself. We walk around the development her parent’s live in. It’s a nice community. An older man walking his dog said hi to Holden. Most of the walk, they were just going back and forth about how they would live without each other. How the little things John does around the house is easily replaceable. Kat says “and you can smoke in your house and not have to shower or shave. You can live happily without me. John: that would be great. I could smoke all the time and not have to leave my house. I could get a mail ordered bride to do all the house work and to take care of other needs. It would be great.
(it went on and on between the two)(In my head I am thinking. … you are so lucky john, you don’t even realize it)
We end up in the back yard, and we went and sat on the chairs on the porch. It was very nice. Kat was blowing bubbles with Holden for a while. All the time we were out side, john was smoking his cigar. Eventually we went in side and said our good byes.
