~♥ Today I'm Thankful For... Warmer weather.

Today was my little Rose's birthday party. Her actual birthday is Monday, but since that is a work day, we did her party today. It is monsoon season right now so it's been raining every single evening. Yesterday it started raining at 3pm and rained for several hours. It took us a very long time to get home due to all the flooding. I was SO thankful for my awful truck yesterday because the water was high in a lot of areas! We needed the rain though so I was very thankful we got so much. I had been keeping my eye on the weather for today since last weekend just to make sure it wouldn't rain during the day. It turned out to be really great weather! It was warm for the first couple hours and then it cooled down, but it didn't get cold or really windy. It was overcast for a little bit which provided a lot of shade. That was nice as well! It didn't rain at all while we were there.
Her party lasted 4 hours. I prefer to do really low key stuff for birthdays and holidays because if I try to do too much or make it too perfect I get very overwhelmed and end up in tears. For that reason we did a party at a local park that has a great playground for kids. It's next to a library that's within walking distance so it's a quick trip if someone needs the bathroom. The kids played the whole time, they didn't get bored at all. We did Tres Leches cake, actually we had two of them because I made one with regular milk and one with almond milk for those with food allergies - even though neither of the families with the food allergies showed up! I was being considerate of their needs by doing both and to not show up without letting us know what not very polite in my opinion. It is good manners to let people know if you aren't going to show up, and to do so ahead of time if at all possible. I guess people aren't raised with good manners like they used to be. Everyone who did come had a great time so everything worked out very well! :*)
The cakes turned out wonderful! I think the both tasted pretty similar and everyone loved them. We had yummy snacks and drinks as well too, kids are always getting hungry! There were lots of kids so everyone had plenty of other kids to play with. With a child you want kids coming more than adults haha. For her present she got an awesome white play horse, the tall kind for the 18 inch dolls! She was SO excited to get it! For those who don't know, my daughter is horse crazy and loves all things horses. :*) She has a tan horse the same size that I got her for Christmas last year that she named Daisy. She brought Daisy out so she could groom and style both her horses. I posted a picture below of the two horses all done up! I did the braids in their hair for her. Now I can add horse hair stylist to my resume, hahaha! She has played with the white horse for 4 hours tonight! She named her white horse Snow White based on one of the horses in the Pony Pals books. :*) She also got a loom set so she can make her own pot holders (she loves arts & crafts!), a really cute & colorful butterfly nightgown, a pair of colorful Nike high top shoes with pink sparkles laces, a pair of black & silver shoe laces for her new LEI sneaker boots (similar to the Converse boots), 3 tubes of acrylic paint (she's taken up painting), a big set of nice paint brushes in different sizes, and a $15 gift card to an arts & crafts store. She loved everything she got and was very thankful! She'll be making Thank You cards this week.
Last Christmas I got her a really neat painting set with a small wooden easel, a big set of watercolor paints, a paint tray, a few brushes, and a bunch of small canvases with picture outlines on them for beginner painters. We FINALLY opened it up this past week and she painted her first painting! She picked out an owl picture canvas to paint and even chose a little owl toy to be her model. :*) She really enjoyed doing it but the watercolor paints are too hard for her to use so the lady at the crafts store suggested we switch to acrylics. I don't mind the switch since watercolor tubes are SO tiny and can go up to $25 a tube!! Yet we can get a 4 ounce tube of acrylic paint for $4 - a much better deal! We went to the crafts store after her party and used the whole gift card on paint. I figure from time to time we will stop in and grab colors she doesn't have. She's really loving painting and I love that she has so many creative hobbies! I even found a few other canvases with outlines on them that I'm picking up for her when I get a chance.
Her presents from me she will get on her actual birthday. I know she will love them! I even found a horse needlepoint set for kids on Amazon that just arrived today. I love seeing her explore new interests and hobbies. She had my creativity but she has even more than I did. I never really got into painting and I didn't draw much as I got older. I did read a lot though, so no surprise she reads a lot as well! We both had a really great day today. It was so nice to celebrate her birth with great friends, great food, and great weather. I am very thankful for my little girl. She really is such a precious light in my life and the lives of others. She's so full of life, love, creativity, intelligence, integrity, honor, kindness, laughter and fun. She very much deserved a celebration of her life today and I was glad to give her one! :*)

Aww! Her birthday party sounds lovely. I'm glad she had lots of fun with her friends, & the weather was kind. 
That sounds like a very nice party (besides those that were inconsiderate and didn't show up or at least bother to let you know they wouldn't be!). But it sounds like she had a great time 
That's so awesome she has so many hobbies, I wish I was creative when I was little! Haha. I loved coloring in coloring books but that was about it :/
