Life has been pretty good lately. I keep meaning to update but I've been so busy. I fell last Monday evening while we were working on the yard and landed with my weight on my wrists and ankles. My right wrist was messed up the most. I had x-rays taken but they said there aren't any fractures, just a bad sprain. The doctor told me a sprain can take 6 weeks to heal and told me to rest my hand. However, I use my hand all the time so there hasn't been a lot of resting it as much as I should. I have been taking it easy more this week because I want it to heal and I need the break. I'm always Go, Go, Going so this is a good time to not be so busy and take down time for stuff.
I've switched Little Divine to an online homeschool program and use the workbooks and reading to add to it. This is because she is about to turn 10 next month and is super into computers. The site I chose, Time4Learning, is the best site I found. It makes learning FUN and keeps her engaged. We have discovered that as kids move up in grades, the materials cut out the fun stuff and colorful pages. I feel this is a mistake as that stuff helps kids through middle school enjoy learning more. Little Divine loves the site! She hasn't complained about schooling at all since starting it which is a BIG deal! She's in 5th grade now but she flies through the Language Arts lessons so I may have her move up to 6th sooner in those. She reads at a 9th grade level already. We use the local library A LOT.
Mr. Divine and I are still doing great. We're saving up for our official wedding still. As we are paying for it all ourselves, it will take longer for us to do. I was thinking of creating a GoFundMe account to see if any family or friends out of state wanted to contribute, but I'm not sure. It's just going to be a work in progress like everything else!
Speaking of work, I am so ready to be done watching this kiddo I currently watch. I've been watching him almost 3 years and it's been a rough time, especially since last fall. His parents are so unreliable and so last minute with stuff. I've had to start charging them fees for last minute cancelling because they were doing it so regularly. The dad is a jerk, and his child has issues because of that. Mom and Dad have split up so he also gets 2 very different parenting styles. I worry about him because he is not prepared to succeed in kindergarten in August with his behavioral issues and erratic home life. :/ But I have to let go when he starts school because it has been so draining on since January and it's time to move on. I am ready to find new things to do that I enjoy to help bring in an income for our family, and a new family to do childcare for. It used to be such a positive experience for me most of the time but the last 6 months have been so stressful and unenjoyable for me with this family. I feel bad for the child because his parents are not doing him any good. Parents sometimes don't realize how much they impact their children.
I'm looking into exploring more things I enjoy with making artwork and jewelry. I want to have things that I deeply enjoy to do no matter what. I realized that I haven't been putting my needs in my priorities as much for a while and that's something I've been working on changing as it was negatively impacting me. I've been doing adult coloring to use in artwork, catching up on detective shows I like or reading Nancy Drew mysteries when I have down time, working on my blog The Life And Times Of Ivy Divine, and working on my homeschool Facebook page. These are things I enjoy that feed my soul.
I'm also in the midst of planning Little Divine's 10th birthday party. It's Minecraft themed so it's been a lot of work to put it all together since there aren't many Minecraft party supplies available. We discovered a really cool new park filled with activities and a water spray area so we'll be doing her party there this year. She's growing up so much! She's a wonderful little girl and I'm so thankful for her!
Well I'm off to go get ready for the kiddo I watch to get dropped off. It's always a guess exactly what time he will get here so I've got 30 minutes to an hour before he'll arrive. Then I'll be resting and reading while the kids play in our backyard because I'd like to rest my wrist when I can. The kids are participating in the Summer Reading Program our local library does each year and they are also doing prizes for adult readers as well! I'm keeping up with it so hopefully I'll win something. That would be wonderful!
