Island Girl's Diary

A New Diary

11/15/2010

Seems fitting that I'm starting a new diary for a new life. I moved to the Cayman Islands last March after....well that's a long story well documented in my other diary. Let's just say I moved here for a fresh start and to start living the life I always dreamed of. I'm a lucky girl.

I work at a little guest house here cleaning rooms, checking in tourists and handling emergencies like running out of toilet paper. Meeting people from all over the world is always interesting. Communicating effectively is sometimes a challenge. I'm from the deep South in the States and they can't understand my accent any more than I can understand theirs.

This diary will document my daily life and thoughts. Onto the meat of the matter:

It's Pirate's Week here. A week long celebration of the island's heritage. So far the celebrations have mostly entailed turning a glass up to your mouth repeatedly. Not a problem as far as I can see. There was an amazing firework display Friday night and sitting on a seawall watching those colorful explosions light up the sky while reflecting on the sea drew several sighs of contentment from me. Then we attended the street dance. I didn't see much dancing going on, but then it was hard to even walk around because of the crowd. If I can figure out how to post a picture of that, I will. Wish me luck. I'm technology challenged to say the least.

Line dried clothes smell wonderful. Hurray for clean sheet day!

Mosquito bite count as of today: 6 (if there's a mosquito within a mile, it's going to bite me twice) I normally use Off Active instead of perfume. Ode de bug cologne. Dusk usually finds me on my front porch spraying listerine, lighting bug coils and burning incense to try and convince those pesky mossies that there's nothing of interest to bite here. It does make for an interesting combination of smells. Pick your poison...deet or lyme disease.

Ok, I uploaded a picture of the street dance but I have no idea where it is. This site will take some getting used to.

That's all for today. Color me gone.

Thought for the day: If you can't live without me, why aren't you dead yet?

We went to Cayman Islands for our honeymoon. It was So much fun. I loved it there. That is so cool you live there! I had looked up house pricing a while back to see the prices and it was expensive!
We have tons of mosquitos here in Florida. I get bit ALL the time.I have to use the Sportman Outdoor stuff, the strongest kind!

I'm so glad you're posting here too and I can keep up with you. That Pirate's Week thing sounds kind of interesting.

RYC: Corri will be in rehab for at least three months. I told her if she feels she needs to stay longer to curb her desire to drink, then she should do that.
