the first day.
Today was my first official day at The Cheesecake Factory, and let me tell ya, it was EXHAUSTING! To start off, the girl who was training me had not opened in a really long time, and although she was nice, she wasn't the best trainer. She didn't explain a lot to me and when she did it was like she was half assing it..so I dunno. She was really sweet, but I just wasn't really following what she was doing most of the time because she would just do it. I did get to glaze strawberries and make sugar berries, and some other cool stuff. I don't know why I feel so cool when I say "I glazed strawberries"..haha, chyea. That's right. Them strawberries got glazed by ME! Okay, end of me being a loser. Anywayy, it was pretty damn busy. At least for me it was, they said it was slow but I was overwhelmed.
It was hard to make their espresso based drinks, like cappuccinos, lattes, hot cocoas, etc..not because of their techniques, but because after working at The Coffee Bean for 3 years, I'm used to completely different standards. Oh well. Anyway, I didn't even take a 10 minute break I just took a lunch, and before my lunch Hannah (the head cashier) came in and she took over my training. It was COMPLETELY different from Erika's training. I can see why Hannah is a head cashier, girl is on top of her game!! She was very knowledgeable and I felt totally comfortable training with her, so I'm excited to train with her tomorrow.
It's crazy how you never know what time you're off. Well, on the schedule that is viewable online for employees, it doesn't say what time you get off. However, there's a schedule posted in the office for the next few days that show the time you're supposed to be off..I don't think it's guaranteed though. I was "supposed" to be off at 4:30 today based off of that schedule, but I didn't clock out until 5:05. Almost a nine hour day, sheesh! I'm not really used to that. Erika told me there's times where she's had to stay 12 hours or so..that's so crazy! The schedule in the office says that on Wednesday I work 5 pm - 1 am, but Erika said I most likely won't stay until that late. I hope not, because I have to be back to work at 10:30 am the next day! My house is like a 45 min to an hour drive, and I have to get ready too, so really I have to get up like two hours before I have to go to work. Haha.
Anyway, it was just a long day. I'm supposed to be done with training in a few days, but I don't know how that's going to happen.. I feel so unprepared! I DO know how to make a Strawberry Shortcake though, what what?! I also know how to make a Birthday Sundae. Haha, ugh I have so much more to learn. Well that's all for now, hopefully tomorrow is a better day for me. I'm keeping my head up Training is always going to be rough, but I'll get the hang of this job..at least I hope I will classic layouts
