Entries
Now we are going to talk about the most important thing on BloopDiary. Without entries, this would not be a diary site! There are six links in Manage My Diary under the "Entries" catagory. They are:
Entry manager, Search entry, Entry defaults, Entry Template, Entry header, and Entry footer.
We will go over all of these parts today (except "search entry"). First, we will talk about the Entry Manager.
Entry Manager
When you click on Entry Manager you get a list of all the entries you have ever written. It shows #, title, date, Privacy, Comments, and Chapter. As you can see below in the picture, this diary is home to 8 entries (not including this one). Some are marked public and some marked private.
Above the list is a drop down menu that says "Apply to Selection". These are options you can choose from for changing privacy options and comment options. If you click the drop down arrow and it gives you all the options you have.
As you can see in the above picture, the options listed are: Set Privacy to Public, Set Privacy to Members Only, Set Privacy to Friends Only, Set Privacy to Private, Accept Comments from Everybody, Accept Comments from Members Only, Accept Comments from Friends Only, Accept Comments from Nobody, and Delete Selected Entries.
In order to change any options you must select the entries you want to make changes to before selecting what action you want to take. Let's say that I want to change the privacy options for entries 3 - 8 from Private to Public. I simply check the boxes next to each entry and click on the drop down arrow and select "Set Privacy to Public". The options update automatically and a red banner appears to let you know that your options were changed.
If you want to make changes to all your entries, you simply check the very top box next to "#" and it automatically selects all entries.
Entry Defaults
The "Entry Defaults" links gives you all the options you can set your entries to do. You get to tell the system what privacy option you prefer your entries to automatically save in, what comments you want to accept, whether you want to use auto paragraphing or smileys, and what visualisation to use (more about visualisations later).
The settings you choose here are also found in the edit entry as well, in case, you want to change these options for that one particular entry. The options you are choosing in Entry Defaults are what you are defaulting your diary privacy, comment preference, etc. for all entries unless otherwise indicated at the time you're writing your entry.
Entry template
The entry template is where you can set up your entry title and body. For instance, those of us who use layouts can put the coding in the body. Some like to put certain things in the title. When you click on Compose New Entry these codes/text automatically shows up in editor.
For example, on my personal diary I like to number my entries before the title so I put the bold html code, # and end bold html code in the title bar.
Entry Header & Entry Footer
If you want to keep your entry template clean, you can put what you would like on the top of your entries in Entry Header.
As you can see, I like putting the CSS code in the header. The link to the directory that appears in every entry is also stored there. When I click on Compose New Entry I never see the code or the link but when I post the entry, they are there. Same goes for footer. Had I opted to have the directory link at the bottom I would have put it in Entry Footer.
