As I don't have much to write about right now, I'm filling the news diary with tips for you all!
The last entry was about air conditioning and the common misconception that says it is cheaper to leave it on. This entry is about electrical storms - ie. lightning.
A surge protector will protect your computer or laptop against small surges in the line's voltage to an extent. However, it will not protect you against lightning. Even if you switch things off, lightning will JUMP the connections in the switch and fry whatever it comes into contact with.
The only true way to protect against lightning is to physically unplug equipment from the wall.
If you have an antenna plugged into your TV, lightning can also travel through this line and fry your TV or whatever else it plugs into.
