That's my concern too. I mean it looks user friendly but...not boring...too simplistic maybe. It wouldn't grab my attention and make me want to sign up. I think websites sometimes redesign things and it lands up being too complicated whereas this is going the other way and losing a lot of "Bloop personality".
That's what it is - it lacks personality. Yes a website needs personality lol.
I like the Community Announcements having the user profile picture and the quote bubble - it's fun and much more eye-catching than the current layout. Same as the search box - very nice and tidy and clean. =) I like the blue box around the middle bit too - it may look nice/cleaner if there were also similar boxes around the left- and right-hand columns too... although that may look too repetitive... I'm not really sure. xD
I think the Recent Entries looks better the way it is (alternating colours). Not sure how I feel about the rounded borders on the profile pics in the Recent Entries.
Overall I do see it on the way to being a better main page. =) It is a little simplistic as you said, but it'll start coming together more as you add more things.
Would you happen to be collaborating with a service diary for design input? The only reason I ask is the colors are just so bland... Tbh, the whole design is bland and kinda ugly. I prefer the current bloop homepage over the new as it doesn't look like an upgrade. Just my opinion
Come to think of it, why not ask bloopers to submit their own prototype of how the main page should look like so you can draw visual ideas from there? Kinda like a bloop screen shot created in photoshop or something? Does that make sense?
I absolutely love it! Definitely a work in progress but I like the simplicity of it. I think it's great for newer members too because with the current page there's just so much going on and so many links to other things etc. We all know how to navigate it and all that jazz, but for those who are new to bloop, I think the new page = awesome.
