I'm vegetarian,
female,
queer,
liberal,
a socialist,
non-religious...

and even with this new law they're coming out, if I had to declare myself one way or the other, I'd say...

I'm pro-life.

Good for you! The pro-life crowd is more far-reaching and diverse than many people know.

Seeing as the "pro-life crowd" describes a group of people with one specific interest, I would imagine that it would be a diverse crowd.

That's like saying, "People who get speeding tickets are a more diverse crowd than many people know."

In my experience, pro-life folks are generally characterized as fundamentalist Christian conservative Republicans.

[MadeToShineStar|0 likes] [|reply]

Because ALL Fundamentalist Christians are pro-life, by definition. But there are some other pro-lifers as well.

I do know quite a few fundamentalist Christians who are not pro-life. Not sure if there is an official position on life matters, considering how splintered fundamentalists have become in terms of denominations, etc. Anyway, interesting thoughts. I bet a thousand different people would characterize "pro life" a thousand different ways.

Has there been a change in the consensus on "when life starts" in the fundamentalist Christian community? If there has, I'm unaware of it.

Should have said, "fundamentalist protestant," rather than "fundamentalist Christian"

[Anonymous SourceStar|0 likes] [|reply]

As far as I know, life used to be unanimously defined as beginning at conception. Nowadays its very common for modern fundamentalist protestant churches (such as my former church) to take a more "interpret at your own discretion" approach which has led to several schools of thought ranging from actual fertilization to as far as birth itself. (And if you're wondering, I believe life begins at fertilization when the sperm joins with the egg.) So many differing views, and this is just among Christians! Easy for me to see how a non-religious person could feel out of place, as this diarist seems to feel.

What's the new law?

[-LittleBit|0 likes] [|reply]

I would also like to know this new law, and where this new law is.

Nothing weird about that. I'm adopted and pro-choice. How's that for ass backwards?

[-chiaromezzo-|0 likes] [|reply]

I'm almost all of those things and pro-life too. But like you, only if I had to declare it one way or the other... generally I say that I personally could not go through with an abortion, and if I were honest, it would hurt rather if someone close to me did... but I also would never judge them for it (or try not to), and would never tell another woman what she should do with her own body... I do offer to adopt the babies though

[ennui|0 likes] [|reply]

Wait, I'm confused. "and would never tell another woman what she should do with her own body" That's a pro-choice stance...I thought you were pro-life?

[Kelsey Lynn xox|0 likes] [|reply]

I am. I would never have an abortion. My beliefs however are MY beliefs. I'm not so arrogant as to think that I have the right to apply them to everybody else. Whilst I might not agree with it because of my personal morals, I am not going to apply my morals to others...

[ennui|0 likes] [|reply]

I feel the exact same way!

I'd never personally have an abortion - but I would never want to take the option away from someone who feels that they need it.

[JessicaStar|0 likes] [|reply]

Wouldn't it still be considered "pro-choice" though? Like, when the time comes when you have to vote on whether or not other women have the choice to have an abortion, are you going to vote in favor of your own personal beliefs?

[Anonymous SourceStar|0 likes] [|reply]

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

[Kelsey Lynn xox|0 likes] [|reply]

You know what? I respect your opinion but you can say abortion is murder all you like but until you ahve been put in that situation you wont ever know the heart breaking decision it is for a woman...

[davidsengel82Star|0 likes] [|reply]

Agreed!

[Acid Fairy|0 likes] [|reply]

uuuuhgreed.

[-chiaromezzo-|0 likes] [|reply]

heart-breaking or not, if a person believes that life begins at conception, then ending that pregnancy is still ending a life.

[valerieeeeeStar|0 likes] [|reply]

Food for thought. Would you give birth to a child that couldnt move, eat, breathe and have some form of quality of life? Could you live with the torture you are going to be putting that poor child through?
I honestly believe that that is not a life at all.
Not disrespecting your opinion just stating mine

[davidsengel82Star|0 likes] [|reply]

[MyღHolds5|0 likes] [|reply]

All right, OP here. I guess my secret isn't a secret I have to keep from Bloop, but just one I would have to keep from my friends.

These are the laws that are coming out, and they make me totally sick:

http://pol.moveon.org/waronwomen/?rc=fb

Redefining rape is the biggest one.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone, I truly am... But I just can't wrap my mind around the concept of having an abortion being totally okay. :/

That being said, please inform me, davidsengel, etc.
