What's your secret?

Pro-Choice

03/05/2011

My sister just had an abortion.
Not because she didn't use protection. Not because she didn't want the baby.
Because she was in so much pain from her other medical conditions. Because to carry full term she would have to have started bedrest in the next month - meaning she wouldn't be able to care for her 10 year old daughter because she is a single mom.

She should of obviously been using a contraceptive then, being a single mom already. She should have thought about her present medical conditions and life situation.

I'm against abortion... so I'm not trying to be harsh or anything. I just think that she should be more careful because she just destroyed a life because of it.

It says "not because she didn't use protection". Sometimes contraception fails.

Sex results in pregnancy sometimes, most times. So obviously that should be in the back of anyones mind if they are sexually active. Therefore... if she didn't want to or could handle being pregnant, then she should have been more careful. Having sexual encounters for the hell of it, getting pregnant, then having an abortion... just irks me.

But it's really none of your business...

Then don't do it.

You don't even know if she had sex "for the hell of it". Her sister could've been raped for all you know. You shouldn't make assumptions about people; it's not nice.

i think it's pretty terrible of you to say that. she used protection, and despite it not working, she wanted the child. she can't because of medical concerns. she was careful. so she wasn't just doing it "for the hell of it".

she probably feels shit enough without your opinion. god forbid you get pregnant after using protection and trying to be careful.

I'd never get an abortion though, that's the difference.

And as hateful as I may have come off. I knew a lot of people who got abortions for selfish reasons, I'm not in any way saying that HER sister did. I'm sure she had her reasons. I'm just very strongly against abortion is all.

[Mommy♥f2+1Star|0 likes] [|reply]

well i only thought it terrible because i know a couple that can't have kids due to the woman having medical conditions that makes pregnancy very difficult and more likely to end up as a miscarriage. the husband had a vasectomy and she STILL got pregnant because the procedure didn't take [re doctor was shit at life]. she had an abortion even after being about as careful as you can be. they felt shit about it, but it wasn't their fault. generally when you get your bits seen to you think it's ok to have sex with no worries. sometimes shit happens, and it irks me when close minded people think everyone that gets an abortion is a horrible person, when sometimes unavoidable crap gets in your way.

I am curious what YOU would do then if your pregnancy was going to bind you to months of continous extreme pain and being confined to bed and unable to care for your existing child.

Given how easy you find it to tell her her sister is wrong, you surely should be able to justify that by saying what you believe she can do instead?

One of my best friends was on bed rest her whole pregnancy and in a lot of pain and she went through with the pregnancy knowing her life was in jeopardy, because she was completely against abortion. And now she has a beautiful 3 year old girl. Watching a 3 year old grow up knowing it was her life or her mothers is a very emotional thing. Her smiles, her questions, each breath she takes. That's what I wouldn't be able to do. Knowing that what's growing inside of me if the life of the beautiful children of the future... I couldn't take that away. I look at my children daily in that same light. My son is 2 years old and I was almost forced to have an abortion with him or have no where to live. I was given the appointment and everything and I never went. Watching my little girl at the time playing with her toys and looking up and smiling at me, I could never bring myself to destroy something so innocent, so perfect.

Yes everyone has their own choices and decisions. But for me. LIFE seems like the best choice for a child. And most people who are pro-choice... are not parents.

But like I said I retract my statement about sex and contraceptives... however my view on children and life and ANTI-ABORTIONS weighs my opinions over all.

[Mommy♥f2+1Star|0 likes] [|reply]

And was your friend going through all of that and caring for another child at the same time?

What exactly do you suggest this girl does with her existing child while confined to her bed? Leave her to fend for herself?

I know plenty of people who have kids and are pro-choice, so that is yet another assumption you make. In fact, although i am pro-choice, my opinion on abortion is probably the most conservative of all of my pro-choice friends (wouldn't ever have one personally, think the gestation limit should be reduced to 12 weeks and women should be permitted no more than one. And I'd prefer it if there was none, but I don't believe that is realistic, and I also believe it would result in a great deal of harm from illegal abortions), and I don't have kids.

However, most of all, my experience through work has meant that I can see that each of these women has their own reasons, their own problems to deal with. Just as this girl does. And I seriously don't think it is for me, or you, to judge and PRESUME that she has the means to effectively cope with caring for a 10 year old while confined to her bed. It's very easy to judge someone who's shoes you've never walked in.

No, but she had 6 prior miscarriages.

I agree with your third paragraph. And you're right also, I don't know her life and what she is capable of doing. Nor do I know the mentality of her 10 year old. [If she were anything like my sister was 3 years ago at age 10, then she could have done a lot to even help her mother while on bed rest.] But seeing how she's a single mother and has medical problems, yes that could be a concern.

But no matter what. I'm still pro-life. I would give up my life for my children, so why kill one of my children before they have a fighting chance. I know it's not everyones opinion. But I'm done with this debate. It's a very touchy subject for a lot of people. Most like religion. And we shall get into neither here. Farewell and good day to you!

Sex results in pregnancy sometimes, most times.

Umm, actually... no. Even if using no contraception at all, a woman has to be at the right stage in her cycle to conceive. So actually for most of the month is is highly unlikely pregnancy will result from unprotected sex.

And you keep saying she should have been "more careful" but you're completely assuming she wasn't careful. Even the most careful person, who uses contraception correctly all of the time can still end up pregnant because NO contraceptive is 100% effective.

[~RedFraggle~Star|0 likes] [|reply]

Because contraception is 100% effective. What a stupid, presumptious thing to say.

[~RedFraggle~Star|0 likes] [|reply]

Regardless of contraceptives or my previous statements. I'm not pro-choice. I am pro-life. So that weighs my opinions more than anything.

[Mommy♥f2+1Star|0 likes] [|reply]

Haha, when people can't give a logical answer they always result to "that's just what I believe", because when challenged, they can't actually justify their stance on the matter.

[~RedFraggle~Star|0 likes] [|reply]

Her body. Her choice! I think you are wrong for coming here and telling everyone about your sisters abortion though. Something about that rubs me the wrong way. I don't feel like it was your secret to tell.

[Kryssy♥NicoleStar|0 likes] [|reply]

i agree with you...

[Pixie.RainStar|0 likes] [|reply]

I agree with you. Her sister confided in her, obviously.. and trusted her with that information. I'd be devestated if I told someone something as persional as that, and found out that they had told someone, anonymous or not.

[ღ.Expecting #3Star|0 likes] [|reply]

I agree, too!

[Toffee SprinklesStar|0 likes] [|reply]

That's sad. I'm sorry. I hope she's ok!

[Poetic Justice|0 likes] [|reply]

I can understand why she would do that. If the pain was that horrible, then you have to do what you have to do. I'm pro-choice because ultimately, it's none our business what someone else is doing to their body. And sometimes, something horrific happens and that person is left with that choice. It's hers to make and we shouldn't judge.
