I think I'm addicted to pot. I know it's not supposed to be addictive, but I can't stop. I smoked during my pregnancy and thankfully I had a healthy baby, but I can't imagine that the smoke is helping his lungs now that he's here. I want to stop but don't know how. HELP!

"It's not supposed to be addictive"? Are you serious?

Obviously you do not understand the concept of going outside when you smoke, and that includes cigarettes. I wouldnt even allow you to hold my son after you smoked let alone smoke in the house with him. It is called responsibility. You know the thing that comes with being a parent.q

The internet's addictive if you have that kind of personality.
Don't smoke around the kid, it's that easy. If you want to stop and you really feel like you can't, you've got a couple choices. You can look in that baby's face, and just not buy anymore when you run out, and just stick it out like tobacco addicts do. Or you can check yourself into rehab, but that's going to ping you for social services.
It's not impossible. People quit things all the time, things with actual physical withdrawals. Either protect your baby from what you're doing, or stop making excuses for why it's too hard. *shrug*

^agree with this. Pot is habitually addictive--- so you won't (shouldn't) go through physical withdraws (like the shakes, fever, etc). So you can either ween yourself off or do it cold-turkey.

Uhm - duh, the smoke isn't helping his lungs.
If you REALLY want to quit and care about your son, then you will FIND a way to stop.
Like what Mindi said, smoke outside. Take responsibility.
You are a PARENT now. It's time to start realizing that. You have a baby to take care of. Instead of spending your time and money on pot, spend that time and money on you and your baby to help him out.

I don't condone smoking while pregnant or around kids, but at the same time, I realized that the "OMGZ don't do that!!" is more of a new trend. Every one has done it for hundreds of years before our time, and we wouldn't be here if they hadn't all turned out just fine.

But in the same sense, look at it this way- You say YOU'RE addicted to pot... What do you think the baby is going through being around it all the time?

it's not physiologically addictive, unless you're smoking it with tobacco. it is addictive though if you have that kind of personality. ANYTHING can be addictive.

smoking while pregnant was pretty fucked of you. sorry to be blunt, but you're pretty lucky if it hasn't messed up his development.

you need to talk to a doctor about quitting. telling us about it is just going to make strangers think you're a cunt.

Addiction is serious....and if you don't know how to stop something you want to stop, it's fairly certain you are addicted. There is much help out there. Reach out to it. Not only for you, but for your child.

ok....really!? Don't smoke around him, there are ways to get help to stop smoking pot. Good grief, just don't smoke around the poor kid.

Marijuana is only psychologically addictive. There is no chemical addiction like other drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. It's really not that hard to stop. you just have to choose to stop. You don't go through withdraw or anything. Just put the stuff down and say enough is enough I have a child to worry about, being high all the time isn't safe for your child. And duh there is a such thing as smoking outside.

I'll tell ya, I usually have no problem with people smoking pot. But in this case, you really are doing your son harm--some of which can't now be undone. He will likely always have trouble keeping tasks straight or remembering things, because of his exposure in utero. I know, because I married a man who has these effects. I deal with the fallout every day.
I'm not going to condemn you. I don't do that. But I will say this. You need to do two things right now. One, you need to move your smoking habit outside. This will protect your baby's lungs and limit your smoking time to when you can safely leave him. Two, start keeping TRACK of how much you are smoking. Just keeping track of it will make you more aware of when you are doing it, allowing you to make the choice every time whether it's something you should be doing right then or not.
Good luck, sweetheart. I know it's hard. You can do it.

As a fellow stoner, I tell you right now that you should probably cut back because if you are worried about it that is a sign my friend. Now if you continue to toke I would buy a Vaporizer so that way there is no smoke in the air just water vapor. They can be costly but so are medical bills for asthma and other lung issues for your kid.

And I have quit smoking pot many times since I started when I was 13 (I'm 28 now) and I only would smoke for a few months and then quit for a few years until I got hurt in a few car accidents. Every time I quit I honestly was fine and didn't go through any kind of withdrawal.

Put you big girl panties on, suck it up and quit. If it's for your child's sake, then it should be a no brainer. He's more important.
