Easy reading (for preteen/teenage girls)

11/11/2010

The books I am going to recommend in this entry are 2 books that I grew up reading. To this day, I can sit down and read them-and still get something out of them. Those are the best kind of books to read, in my humble opinion. They are aimed toward anywhere from 12 year old girls-18 year old girls. Thus, they may not be on your reading level but they may be something suitable for someone else you know. I hope I can do the books justice in my summaries.--Robyn (Vatten mo)

1) The Girl Who Knew Tomorrow (1970 paperback)--Zoa Sherburne

"Ever since she was a little girl, Angie Scotfield has known that she is different. As she grows up she becomes the famous "girl who knows tomorrow" she realizes that because she has ESP (extrasensory perception) she can never have the ordinary fun that other girls have. And then she meets Sam, who doesn't know at first who she is. Now they must part. Will he write as he promised, or will he just become another one of her fans?"----http://www.paperbackswap.com/Girl-Who-Knew-Zoa-Sherburne/book/0590092405/

**My summary: The summary above covers an important role in the storyline for the book. However, for me, it isn't what draws me into the book. It is simply written but the character of Angie is deep in subtle ways. It isn't so much what the author overtly says about Angie and her family. It is about how she describes all the background information...and in the process, creates a full image of Angie. It is about life and decisions. It is, to me, about making the best of situations thrown at you. It is many things to me. The character is on a journey in getting to know herself in many ways. I'm not sure what else to write about this book. Moving on now...

2) The Silver Coach (1979 hardcover)--C.S. Adler

"Neither 12-year-old Chris nor her 6-year-old sister look forward to spending the summer with their unknown grandmother in a remote woodland cabin, but the summer holds many surprises for them, not the least of which is a gradual acceptance of their parents' divorce."----http://www.jacketflap.com/bookdetail.asp?bookid=0698205049

**My summary: I cannot expound more on the book's summary than was is above. There is more to the book than a surface summary covers however. I recommend this book for preteen readers mainly.

Enjoy!
