bloody open diary and bloody weddings

10/23/2010

I guess I'm another refugee from Open Diary... if they manage to sort their shit out then this will probably only be temporary but we will see. it's just frustrating wanting to write only for the site to be down AGAIN... it's not the same just writing something in a word document.

I just wanted to have a whinge about how a girl I used to be at uni with who is my age (20) has recently got engaged after being with her boyfriend for only one year (exactly). it wouldn't be so bad if they were planning on a long engagement, but they're planning on getting married in under a year and started planning the wedding straight away. I suppose it's not as bad as it could be, and MAYBE they are perfect for each other, but to me this seems really rushed. Seems like she just wants the bling on her finger, the perfect dress and the dream wedding as soon as possible to show off to everyone she knows... like 'look how well I'M doing in life!' kinda thing. She already has her wedding dress...

Just ugh. I think that if you're serious about wanting to be together for life then you wait a little longer so that you know you are going to work for the long term, before such a big commitment... it's a lot easier to just break up or break off an engagement even than divorce. And especially with how she's barely out of her teens... I think she'd only been 20 for a few weeks before the proposal.

I've been with my boyfriend officially for nearly 2 years and unofficially for over a year longer. Can't be bothered explaining but the point is that we're not rushing into anything... I know there's some girls out there who think that they're wasting their time if they don't get proposed to by x amount of time, but that's bullshit. If you've been with someone so long then it's not like they're going to suddenly up and leave just because you're not married... there's no point rushing. I still feel very young yet and would feel extremely weird being engaged to be married just yet... it's something I want of course but in a vague 'sometime in the future' kind of way. I'm content for it to happen at the right time.

Anyway... what is with this signature thing? I want the main 'name' that people see to be caramelchicken... do people see 'fuck the system' or 'caramelchicken'?

We see fuck the system caramelchicken is the name you use to log onto your diary. You can change 'fuck the system' to a different name though. I quite like fuck the system lol.
Yeah there is no reason for a twenty year old to rush into marriage when being with a guy for less than two years. A lot of maturing happens between 20 and 25... I can't tell you much about after that though lol. I'm only 25
Ah well. If they get divorced then you can laugh at her.

I've noticed that people who marry young and quickly seem to have longer marriages. Pretty much everyone in my family that rushed into a marriage has been married forever. (both sets of grandparents were married before 20, most of my aunts and uncles.) I think it all depends on the person.

Some people don't want to party and whatnot. I'd rather get married and spend my 20s raising kids than getting drunk and dating around

Welcome to bloop, though!

my husband and were together for 7 yrs before we got married, i was ready to get married after about 5yrs but he wanted to wait and we have been married for 2 yrs now. i agree, people who rush it don't last for long. the wedding isn't the important part, its fun, for sure! but it's the marriage you kind of need even before you're married that's important.

i see fuck the system which would probably draw more of a crowd lol. welcome to bloop.
p.s. i think your right. theres something to waiting a bit before jumping into marriage. it very rarely works....particuarly when they are so young.
the only case i know of it actually working is my grandparents. they met, fell in love and got married within a year of meeting. but they were different times when divorce was taboo
