It went completely unannounced here, but I went to New York in February and saw Phantom of the Opera.
It was phenomenal. However, I really wanted to see American Idiot because that is one of my all-time favorite albums. (I have more loved individual songs, but it's probably the best album as a whole, with a few close contenders.) Anyway, I was upset because tickets costed like $300 for the shit seats and $450+ for anything worth seeing.
Well, American Idiot is closing. April 24th is the last date it will show on Broadway. Yesterday I was sooo upset, so I tweeted it and everything. Well, as I posted a while ago, my mom got a Twitter. (She did NOT get a Tumblr.) She saw that I was upset, and get this:
We're going to New York on Easter weekend.
We already have a hotel booked AND I have a ticket confirmation for April 23, 2011 at 2:00pm. I know afternoon shows aren't ideal, but it's CLOSING. Better yet, the ticket was $111 for a mid-Mezzanine. Pretty good, eh? Not front-and-center, but actually better than my Phantom seat.
But yeah, she totally planned this spur-of-the-moment. I have that Friday and Monday off school, so the whole family is leaving ~5am on Friday and staying Friday and Saturday night. Friday we're probably going to just run around a bit, maybe see 30 Rock and 5th Avenue (FAO, Tiffany's, etc.) or something, and end up at the MoMA so I can see some kickass art (free on Fridays!). Saturday we haven't planned, maybe the Empire State Building? Dunno. My play is at 2pm, they might get one around then too (they care much less, but they are sort of interested in Phantom). That night we're going to look at Times Square and such that night. Sunday we wake up and check out of the hotel, but we are still leaving the car there and probably seeing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and walking the financial district (I want to show my dad the NYSE, and I know he wants to visit Ground Zero). I'm hoping to squeeze a visit to Columbia in there somewhere. Maybe they could see a play at a different time from mine...? Dunno. We're leaving late Sunday night and driving all through the midnight and early morning hours. Super excited. I cannot wait. At all. adfasjfdhkasjfdh |
