My oldest friend. Wow now that is a brain chomper. See my oldest as in number of years "friend" is Christy. She was the maid of honor at my wedding...but we dont talk much anymore. So I will default to the person who has been my friend the longest over the years. Christine (damn there is a theme in my life with the Christy, Christine, Chris names)
Christine moved into our village in late elementary school. She was just down my street. There were a lot of kids in the village when I was growing up and she joined in with us.
As we started growing up we became best friends. She was an only child and I have two sisters. She always wanted sisters and at that time...well the grass is always greener lets just say.
We did everything we could together but her family was Catholic and mine was decidedly not. She tried coming to my youth group a couple of times but her mom did not like that.
I had a friend then named Mike. We had known each other for well...ever. He was a year ahead of us in school, or maybe two. Either way, he was handsome but far more of a brother figure for me than anything else. I introduced them.
She did my hair for prom. We loved each other. We hurt each other. Then I went to College. She still had a year of high school left. We did not talk much, more our stubborn inclination that we were both right in a wrong situation.
She moved to Georgia. I went home to visit and found out she was getting married just a couple weeks after I did. I had never even heard of this man she was marrying, but it did not sound right to me. I did not get to go.
We did not speak for years.
She called me out of the blue, telling me that she was trapped in a loveless marriage and what should she do. I told her, without hesitation come live with me. That was when she had two kids. She had a third on the way. We did not talk for quite some time again....
She called out of the blue and apologized for everything. By now there was nothing to apologize for, she is my sister, my friend and I love her dearly...and I missed her even more than that.
I was in a bad marriage and we commiserated. I told her what Chris had done, we cried together. Later she shared what her husband had done...and we cried again.
We both left our husbands.... at different times and I was first. She finally came to the realization that Catholic or not, she had to get out to survive.
She moved in with that sweet boy I first introduced her to and they are getting married soon. We have visited a few times over the last couple of years, She lives in Deleware now and I am here in Virginia.
We text and talk almost weekly, but nothing is as good as having her nearby.
We have decided if things do not work out with our Mikes we are going to become lesbians and just move in together.
I could definately do worse...she could definately do better.
I love her. She is my friend. She is my sister. |
