The 999 Challenge...again.

05/05/2009

strike

So, I believe I have mentioned the 999 challenge I started in a previous entry. For those who don't know about it I'll give a brief description again. The goal is to read 9 books in 9 categories in the year 2009. That's 81 books though you can overlap and only read 72 books. To make it more challenging you can do it by the date 9/9/09. I love to read and my friend, Jenn, introduced it to me. At first I was a bit wary of it because I don't read from different categories really, mainly just fantasy. Then I found out that you can make the categories anything you want. From historical fiction, non-fiction, to my sister wants me to read. So this is an update of how things are going.
SLOWLY!!
lol. We've been so busy here of late and I've been addicted to my service diary that I haven't got much reading done. Plus, whenever I read it makes me drowsy so I tend to read prior to sleeping, not always but mostly. So, here are my categories...
Robert E. Feist
Fantasy
Childhood Faves
Young Adult
Historical Fiction
Historical Non-Fiction
Western Fiction
and I still need to more categories. But I will have to wait and see something that catches my eye and then I'll categorize it somehow. I've technically read all I need for one of my categories but it was pretty much done before I knew of the challenge. It was done in 2009 so I'm not sure what to do. I feel as though it's cheating since I should start when I start the challenge but the challenge is for the year not when you start the challenge. Geez, that was such a bad sentence lol. Here's what I've read so far this year...Magician:Apprentice, Magician:Master, Silverthorn, Darkness at Sethanon, The King's Buccaneer, Prince of the Blood, Kronder:Assassins, Krondor:The Betrayal, Tear of the Gods. Yep that completes one category. What do you think? Should I re-read them or just consider it done? Prince of the Blood is the only one I read after starting the challenge and I just finished it last night so that one is already done. I have no problem re-reading these books and it will probably be awhile before I can get more of his books (all of these are Raymond E. Feist's books). I still have one that I haven't read but this series is kind of confusing as to how to read them. Some you can't understand fully unless you read certain of books previously, and then some are kinda a side story or something in which you didn't have to. On his website there are several different reading orders. Written, Chronological, and Alternate. I don't know who came up with the alternate one but it was the one suggested by friends on the forum. Written is the one that is suggested on his website. Chronological is the one that seems like it would make sense since his books spans centuries time wise. I don't know. So far I chose the reading order of "When Amanda can afford to buy a book and what the store has" lol. I'm pretty much able to piece it together though if you read one that is later on in years they tend to refer to events that happened in books you haven't read therefore ruining the plot and such. -sighs- Who knew reading could be so difficult? Anyways, my historical fiction will consist of the John Jakes books and others. North and South which is three books long, then I have Gone with the Wind and I'll have to find some more. My western books so far are Lonesome Dove which I believe was 3 books and then some Louis Lamour. Historical Non-Fiction will mainly consist of books written on the Civil war and the Pacific war because they interest me. I love the civil war mainly due to the saga of North and South. It gave me such a romantic view of it though there was nothing romantic about it. The Pacific war because my grandfather was there during the bombing of Pearl harbor. I have several books that I've bought about them though I haven't read them. I started reading the one on the civil war but didn't get far and I mainly just browse through them. That will have to change and I won't have a problem with it though. Well, I guess I should close this and do some reading lol. Ciao!

how about a catagory for random books or books that spark your interest. and the books you already read count... i only used 8 of the books i'd read this year when i started the challenge. mostly cause i couldnt remember all the books i read this year and what was just the end of last year. anyway maybe make one catagory "books i read this year but before starting the challenege" lol i dunno.
