Naming convention

I thought it was like this anyway, or it used to be? So I guess I think it's fine, haha.

But i already changed my names on my diary cause i liked the idea..

I prefer it... as someone who prefers to use punctuation properly, I detest using hyphens in places where there is no need for one
I also appreciate the democracy here at bloop... although I think that it will always be impossible to please everyone and sometimes we are just going to have to get used to changes and appreciate that its for the best for bloop. x

I like this idea, but how would one know the username in order to tag said person? Since that remains the same, but a diary name may change.

You could do it like this: say I wanted to tag you, but say (for example) your username was jessica2000. I'd type in Jellyka to the tag search box (or however Steve plans to do it) and it'd automatically show it as jessica2000 because in the database, you should be able to link someone's signature to their username. At least, that's how I'd do it. xD

I was under the impression that it'd be more like a pseudo-facebook thing. Where you type @ and then just begin typing their username.

Unless it's where you can just type their diary name... and the system will add the rest.

Hahaha s'all good. xD Yes, the facebook way is one way to do it, but 365project.org does it more the way I'm thinking - you hit "reply" on a forum post and even though the user's display name might be Jellyka, when you hit "reply" it automatically inserts @jessica2000 (i.e. their username) into your post, without you having to do anything. =)

And the facebook way could be done, if Steve rigs it so that when you start typing a signature, that person's signature comes up, but the behind-the-scenes code actually contains their username instead... or something.

I like the tagging idea so much that I don't care if I have to change my signature, username or whatever else! Not that I need to. =P

Oh, I just realized if I put the cursor over my icon next to my name in the task bar, I get a logout option as well as a list of the diaries I can switch in and out of. =] I still think it should be something more obvious though, separate maybe.

I might be wrong but I am pretty sure when you could see who was online in the task bar thingee and ppl could chat to you, it showed their username?

didn't show their username, it showed their diary personalized url address name. like my login name is my real name with some #s and my diary URL/chat name is renewed and my diary name is MoreThanEnough.

I thought having a separate username and signature name was for added security - if people now know both, that extra security will no longer be there. Not that I care personally - I'm sure most people know my username anyway - but I don't like the idea of tagging. What if we don't want to be tagged? Do we have the option to not accept it?

So, to clarify:

Account name = your login name

User name = a web address compatible name visible to public, and is currently probably going to be the same as the permalink used for your diary

Signature = what you leave on comments

These are the three different identity components we'll end up having. It's kind of complicated, but will be more obvious when I'm done with it.

Also, I know some people don't think they'd using tagging, but you never know what you miss until you have it. Sooo bear with me!

when you update the toolbar, can you please add an "edit entry" option or something. i'm famous for going back and adding or deleting things from my entries and in the new layout, there's no option for me to do that.

There is - it's the Live button, you can click it to turn it off. However, it doesn't save the option yet so when you change pages it will turn itself back on. Sorry. It's getting there!

unrelated but is there a way to make it so that entries cannot be RC'd unless they are available for all members to read. It seems like every time I see a snippet of an RC entry that I'm interested in reading, I click the link and am denied access. It's frustrating.
