I think my parents are ashamed of me. Being 14 and 190 pounds, they obviously are. I mean, i get lectures at least three times a day. "Oh, you're gonna be in a wheel chair soon! You wont be able to walk! You can barely get clothes that fit!"

My mother lost 20 pounds from the treadmill, and she brags about it all the time. She's a size 8 in pants while im a size 14. I just wish she'd let me go out to starbucks and hang out with friends like a normal teen, instead of nagging me and telling me im gonna die soon.

I mean, it does bother me, my weight. But it bothers me even more how i cant enjoy my young -teen years without having holy water sprayed on me. Fuck

I think your parents are just trying to make you realize how dangerous it is to be overweight at such a young age. I' not saying be a size 2, but just be healthy. There are a lot of health problems that you can get by being over weight, like diabetes, heart disease etc. Especially since you are so young, they just want what is best for you.
I think they should try and get you to be healthier in a different way though. They should encourage you to eat healthier and be more active, but in a way that doesn't make you feel like crap. Maybe you could join a sport or something in school. Try and find something you enjoy that also makes you more active. =]

Sounds like my parents. Although their constant nagging is a bit over-bearing. They do make good points.

Age and weight doesn't necessarily mean anything.
I was considered overweight looking at those standards, but I was very tall for my age, i think about five inches above "normal" so in reality it wasn't overweight at all. Just chubby? in that aspect.

I think everyone goes through different stages with their weight, I know I went through quite a few before and during my teenage years. Throughout the first 2/3 years of secondary school I was pretty 'chubby' and then the weight seemed to drop off in the last 2 years I was there, I went from a size 12 to a size 8 quite quickly even though I wasn't doing anything different. 3 years later, at the end of 6th form, I had gone from that size 8 back to a 12, near 14. A 3 further years on, and I'm at a comfortable, healthy and happy 12. (BTW these sizes are UK sizes, so convert them to American if you wish).
If you know your weight is because of what you eat, or how much you eat then you can do something about it, and prove to your parents that you are grown-up enough to act responsibly with regard to your weight.

well, it's dangerous. when you're with friends, you wont be in control as much as you would at home (i did that, and still do.) it's a hard thing to do, but in the end, being overweight will kill you. it doesn't seem bad now, until stuff starts to happen, but it's best to start tackling it now before it gets worse, ya know?

My parents did the same thing.
I actually wasnt over weight in high school but they made a point to comment about the size of my ass and the amount of food I ate.
'Do you really need that?'
'It looks like you gained weight.'
'Your ass isnt going to be able to fit inside those pants if you keep eating.'

Now, yes, I have gained weight.
I agree with fairytale.
You dont know how many people gaioned a lot of weight or loss a lot of weight when they got out of high school; its amazing.

I think your mom is proud that she lost the weight, but the treadmill or even certain excersises arnt right for anybody.

I took on yoga because it was fun, and even if it didnt make me lose weight, it made me limber and calm.

If your mom keeps making comments, or anybody, ask them if they want to go with you to do a session of yoga, or go work out with you.

Bottom line, you may be uncomfortable with your weight but everyone is beautiful in their own way, and I dont think that you should be holed up in the house and not allowed to go out and have fun.

I'm sorry. Honestly, it sounds to me like they're just trying to protect you, not berate you. Being overweight isnt easy, especially at your age. It sounds like they're trying to 'nip it in the bud', so to speak, so that you dont get teased, or shunned in highschool, and end up feeling like it's your fault. Granted, they're probably not going about it as well as they could, but I'm guessing they dont know how to deal with the situation. Maybe talk to them?

Hey, guess what? At 15 I was 190. My mom went to the store one day and bought me diet pills. Of course I told her to go screw a goat. The point is, you will lose the weight, it doesn't stay on forever. Puberty is a bitch.

I know it feels like to be there. That's about the size I was at that age, if not bigger. I still don't like who I am when it comes to that. But you're the one that has to live with it, not your parents.

You only have a couple more years before you can leave if you want to. Hang in there.

I think that your parents are just worried about you..but they don't know how to handle it. The only thing that you need to worry about is if you are happy or not. If you are...let everything go in one ear and out the other. If you're not...handle it in your own way. Take what they say and turn it into constructive criticism for yourself. Take only the words that help you.

your 14 years old! I wasn't overweight then, but hell, i was funny shaped. almost EVERYONE goes through funny stages, if not size then shape! how tall are you?
Jessica. was right ... ya gotta take height into consideration. after high school i gained weight. then i stopped drinking soda pop and walked everywhere (almost everywhere ^_^) ... it helps! parents can be more harsh than they think they are sometimes. I'm 5'8" and 160 lbs and my step dad still calls me a cow! lol and im 20 lol

always remember: weight is just a number. You could be stick thin and you'd have people telling you that you're overweight and need to loose weight.

How tall are you? That puts in a major factor in your weight.

And remember, now a days, size fourteen is pretty normal. You're still growing and you're weight is not gonna stay the same. Don't let your parents get to you. Sure, they may be worried, but just watch what you eat, and you'll be fine.
