I've never been in a home that has multiple pets living in it that was clean. There's always a smell in the air, hair everywhere or stains on the carpets. It really grosses me out..
I don't think that people with a lot of pets are very clean. I always use allergies as an excuse for not going to their houses, when I'm not allergic to anything. Their dirty homes disgust me.
I have stains on my carpet. Most of it's from before we even moved into this house. It's a rental house, and I can't repair the carpets. I've had them cleaned professionally 6 times since we moved in 18 months ago - it got a lot of the stains out but the high traffic areas remain "dingy" looking and there's nothing I can do about it. The carpet needs replaced.
Most of the stains are kid related and not pet related. My daughter has a tendency to walk into walls (yes.. dead serious) and spill whatevers in her hand. I have a lot of grape juice and fruit punch stains throughout the house. I've cleaned it right away, spot treated it, and used carpet cleaners on it - but it's still there.
Part of having kids & carpet IMO. I hate having carpet. If we buy this house I will be ripping the carpet out and putting in hard wood floors =\
i've had dogs all my life, and other than a bit of fur on the carpet between vacuuming, there's never been a smell or stains. not all pet owners are disgusting. you are ignorant.
჻ೋ჻ Dear GAWD, spank me and call me dirty because my parakeets and gerbils are so EFFING dirty! My gawd, like all those tiny tiny bird feathers and occasional pieces of bedding are just so danged UNCLEAN! What's even worse is my kitten, OMG she like poops and pees in a box that is emptied throughout the day, and she is so fastidious in keeping herself groomed and clean, but DEAR GAWD she she makes my home so DIRTY and UNCLEAN!!! It just smells so bad in here like..... AIR!!!! Let's not even start with my tiny beta fish in a small glass bowl that's cleaned every couple of days!! DIIIIIRTTTTYY!!!! DIIIIIRTTTTY!!!!
i have four shedding animals (1 dog, 2 cats, and 1 rat) and vacuum every day even though the majority of my house is hardwood (and everyone else considers that excessive - i am OCD). The only thing my house ever smells like is cooking. Your friends are just gross. All there is to it.
Normally i just feel sorry for people who have no pets to love, but you just need to grow up. You clearly associate with the wrong type of people.
You know, I don't really think that way of other people's houses (the thought has just never crossed my mind), but now that you point it out, I kind of agree. I don't want pets of my own for this very reason!
It depends on how people keep them, my uncle has a dog and everything in his house is covered in hair, you can even sometimes find the odd hair in a clean cup that has been in the cupboard! Their house doesn't smell of dog at all though.
Dog smell is disgusting, I went to a friends house a while ago and it absolutely stank of dirty dog, though I did notice the house was generally dirty, the kitchen was filthy.
My parents have a dog, however he is a toy poodle so he does not shed hair, he also doesn't produce dander so he doesn't smell either unless he gets dirty outside. They have a cat as well, she is a persian but she barely sheds either, which I think is quite strange, I would expect her to shed a lot. She does tend to get cots when she sheds though, so we will occasionally find a little clump of hair. All the stains on our carpets are from us dropping things on them, mainly tea, no animal wee or poo in our house!
It is most likely that you just know people who have pets and who are also dirty, let me assure you plenty of people who don't own animals are also very dirty.
Thats why I could never be friends with someone like this. My pets are like my children. I bet your home has kids and smells of diaper shit. Homes with kids are much dirtier than mine with my FIVE animals. Maybe you havent been to the right house. People say my house is SPOTLESS and smells GREAT and they dont even realize how many cats I have. Usually I dont comment on these stupid "secrets" but this was outrageous.
I think it depends on the pet owner. I have 3 inside animals and I'm very anal about keeping my house smelling good. I've been in some houses that just have one cat that smelled horrible. But they let the animal shit and piss where ever. Some people are just not responsible enough to have pets anyway.
At least the secret putter out there has the balls to come and reply to some of these comments.
Being a pet owner myself I can understand the concern, but not everyone with pets has a dirty, stinky house. It's usually those who don't bathe their animals or don't empty the litter box or don't take the dog beds outside to air out.
Pet hair is a fact of life. Even if you think you got it all up, there's always that wayward strand that you can never seem to catch.
even then, people shed too! Not just animals, and most people clean up after their pet hair, and not their own. and and the secret putter out there doesnt have balls bc theyre not even signing their name, theyre still being a coward bc they know theyll probably lose all their friends.
Why would you want to be friends with someone that thinks you are disgusting and filthy, not because you actually ARE, but because they want to judge everyone that has pets?
I don't mind if people don't like my pets. To each their own. I just keep my pets away from those people. But to judge me so harshly based on NO facts at all is enough to not want to be friends with that person. Whether or not a house with pets is filthy depends on the individual pet owners.
I really really agree.. it's so rare to find a home with multiple pets that I feel comfortable in.. I love dogs don't get me wrong, but usually they just smell.
& let me clarify. It's because they're INSIDE dogs, but also hunting dogs. So there is dog hair everywhere. They're not well mannered, so they're in your face even when you're eating. (Nope, they don't kennel them outside very often) They are house trained & never have accidents, so that's one nice thing.
I have a kitty, and he sheds, but our furniture is leather, so no problem there. Also, he poopies in his litterbox, so no stains, just an occasional smell.
I have been in some houses with multiple pets as in 10+ dogs a few cats and a few birds. and i can see where this person is coming from it can be nasty. but I have 2 cats and a dog in the house I live in and its clean. you might find some hair because my cat leaves hair where she lays, but the house does not smell and is not covered in stains from the animals. sure sometimes they get hair balls and yack all over, but thats what cleaning supplies are for. I have stain remover spray for those exact times as my mom's cat yacks a lot. The poeple who have a lot of animals are not able to keep up with them and that is why their houses can be so bad. also some people are just slobs and don't clean up after their animals. I have seen houses where there was one cat and it stunk horribly because the person did not clean the litterbox and things like that.
so really it doesn't matter how many animals there are, its how the owners take care of those animals and the house.
I agree for the most part, people who own tons of pets tend to be pretty lax in their cleaning rituals. But i've also been in a house before that had five dogs and was just as neat and tidy as mine, with my one little ankle biter dog. It really just depends on the person. As for people who own pets like lizards, or gerbils, or ferrets, those animals just STINK, it's just what they do lol. You can clean the cage all you want, it's still gonna smell like snake/gerbil/ferret. I'm with you though, in houses that own like four cats, i just play the allergy card even though i'm not allergic.
I agree. I don't know anybody with animals that have clean houses that don't smell like pee or wet dog fur. Not that all people with animals are disgusting. I know one girl that has lived in her house for three years and just recently bought a vacuum. She has several dogs. There is so much dog hair in her house that I refuse to go there anymore. I feel bad for her toddler daughter. Her daughter CRAWLS on the floor and gets COVERED with dog hair. Her daughter will even pick up balls of dog hair in the corner of the room and try to PLAY with it. There are just balls of dog hair everywhere. It smells SO horrible in her house too that I had to breath through my nose. Her dogs pee and poop ALL over the floor and she'll clean it up, but the stains are all over the carpet.
Actually some pet owners ARE clean *raises hand*
I have 2 dogs and 1 cat. My house is clean thanks. Because I do this really weird thing called cleaning...
I'm the same way though.
The hair all over the place really grosses me out. And it actually DOES mess with my allergies.
And the strong smell of dog makes me gag.
Most people get really offended for no reason when a person dislikes a pet or animal.
Everyone has their own opinions.
I myself cannot deal with having pet hair on my dishes or all over my clothes when I sit down on a couch.
If I show up to a house clean, I want to leave clean.
Not smelling like dog or having pet hair all over me.
I
have two dogs (a german shepherd and a cocker spaniel) and a cat (who is a semi outdoor/indoor cat). The dog hair, I can agree with you on. It doesn't matter if I sweep every day and vacuum -- there's dog hair in my home. Maybe not globs and clumps of
it (yuck!) but there's going to be dog hair on my floor and dog hair on the couches. No dog hair in our fridge, cabinets, or on our eating utensils (again - disgusting!) but on our floors and couches, yep.. As far as a smell? It depends on the day -
with all the rain that we've had lately, the cocker spaniel (who is a 6 month puppy) definitely smells like wet dog some days and there's NOTHING I can do to get rid of that aside from bathing him, but I can't bathe him every single day. So if it's a
nasty, rainy day - you might smell dog stink on him. If it disgusts you, it disgusts me too LOL Seriously.
As far as considering my home dirty? No, I don't. I clean it regularly, I sweep and vacuum, I clean the bathrooms, etc. My home is
clean - lived in (see: cluttered) but still clean and I don't think it's disgusting by any means.
With that being said, I wouldn't be offended if someone said "I don't like dogs, so I'm not going to come in" - but I would be offended if I
offered to put them outside and they still refused to come inside.
You guys are missing the point. It isn’t about stains. As someone who is allergic to all things with fur, I have never owned an animal so my noise is sensitive to the smell. I can walk through my apartment complex and smell who has animals with their door shut. Even the very cleanest home has a smell. I knew a woman who had OCD and vacuumed twice a day every day and I could still smell her one cat.
