Have you ever wished you could follow someone, just to continue eavesdropping on a cell phone conversation that grabbed your attention? This morning I walked past the cafeteria to get a soda out of the vending machine and a young lady crossed my path on her way from the cafeteria to the Ladies’ Restroom across the hall. She was speaking earnestly on her cell phone and all I heard was, “Well, the LAST two times Cassie had these visions…” and her voice trailed off to a mumble as she entered the Ladies’ Restroom and I continued down the hallway. I was reminded of the plot of Harry Kemelman’s short story, “The Nine-Mile Walk” where a nine word snippet of a conversation led to an inference of the possible meanings and eventually led to the discovery of a murder and the capture of the persons responsible. For example, one could infer that Cassie has had more than two visions, and that she regularly shares them with others. People are interesting. Scary, too.
Do we have any aficionados of the movie, “Animal House” who read my journal? I read THIS article about a university in British Columbia that is instituting a grade worse than F for students found guilty of egregious academic dishonesty. I wonder if they are also placed on Double Secret Probation?
Welcome to the Hotel California? This must be my day for ‘70’s references in my journal. I also read THIS article about, well, a hotel in California that is offering a basic room for $19. Basic means, you get a room with a door, a toilet with single light bulb, and that’s about it. No bed, no toilet paper, no little bottles of shampoo. They will upgrade you (adding a bed is next, if you want linens on the bed that will cost extra) but one could say that it’s a Hell of a deal. I wonder if they could hire Joe Walsh to do promos for them? |
