Writing from the hospital still/again. Gabby's not doing so hot - her blood is too thick and she's at a crazy risk for clotting...the results of a clot are catastrophic with the valve replacement. And not only have we not been able to control the INR (blood thickness) with the coumadin, she started to develop coumadin rash, which leads to skin necrosis....so, they pulled her off the coumadin and put her on levinox. Problems here are not few - levinox is not a long term option, it's not proven to be effective with mechanical valves, and its a shot twice a day. A BIG shot twice a day. In two weeks, we'll be spending time at Children's Mercy again to rechallenge her on coumadin therapy since it is the ONLY medication proven to work with valves - if she develops the coumadin rash again, I don't know what the hell we will do. I'm terrified to think of the possibilities. They're still leaning on the 85% chance at survival, but the more we find out the less I want to know....so many of her problems conflict with the treatment of others. And the other day, we found a 7cm cyst in her right kidney, which ALREADY had severe hydronephrosis, and now her creatinine is high, so I'm bracing for the worst there, too. It feels like if anything is going to go wrong, it's going to happen now.
