Nine Years

09/11/2010

I was living in a shoe-box ghetto apartment. My alarm clock came on at the usual time. Instead of my usual rock-n-roll morning call, I get CNN. I thought it was a bad prank. So I got up and turned on my TV to CNN. Actually it didn't matter what channel, they were all showing CNN.

Time shifted, I saw it happen as if it was going on right then. Number two lined up, and hit at ramming speed. It had happened hours earlier, but with the CNN efficiency it was also happening now. It happened over and over through the day.

I went to work. It's remarkable what sort of ghost-town happens when something big goes down. Lots of people, but no one did anything. We were agast.

Someone called in a bomb threat to our building. We evacuated. Two-hours later we find it had been a hoax, but they told us if we were uncomfortable we could go home - no questions asked (a week later, the bastards gave $50 gift cards to the ones who stayed).

I went home.

That's what I remember from the day the towers fell.

I was in my grade ten history class when the news came over the PA system. I live in Canada but I nearly had a panic attack. My mom and step-dad had just called and let me know they had made it to New York the day before and then that happened. My teacher thought I was going to throw up. It freaked me out.

i was little. i remember being confused and just watching my parents cry. school was cancelled and the next day no one really came because so many folks had family in NY. strange how much time has passed since then.
