DEVASTATED Americans ABANDONING HUSSEIN Obama!!

07/27/2011

More than a third of Americans now believe that President Obama’s policies are hurting the economy, and confidence in his ability to create jobs is sharply eroding among his base, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

But Americans’ discontent does not stop there. The survey also found that Americans harbor negative feelings toward congressional Republicans. Roughly as many people blame Republican policies for the poor economy as they do Obama. But 65 percent disapprove of the GOP’s handling of jobs, compared to 52 percent for the president.

The dissatisfaction is fueled by the fact that many Americans continue to see little relief from the pain of a recession that technically ended two years ago. Ninety percent of those surveyed said the economy is not doing well, and four out of five report that jobs are difficult to find. In interviews, several people said that they feel abandoned by both parties, particularly as debates over the debt ceiling gridlock Washington.

“What I’ve realized is it doesn’t matter if you’re Republican or Democrat anymore,” said Joey Wakim, 21, a used car salesman from Allentown, Pa. “We just want somebody who’s gonna get things right.”

The Post-ABC survey found that a majority of Americans still blame former president George W. Bush for the state of the economy. But it also found that Americans who identified most closely with the burgeoning tea party movement are more likely to have experienced lifestyle changes because of the downturn.

Rose Bear, 52, said her husband travels 800 miles round trip to work in North Dakota because there are not enough jobs near their home in Laurel, Mont. Bear said she supports the tea party in part because of its focus on taxes and employment.

“If you keep throwing up the taxes and busting the guy who’s employing you, people are gonna lose jobs,” she said. “They’re addressing the issue of the joblessness.”

The poll showed support for Obama’s economic agenda has begun to slip in the past nine months. The percentage of people who said Obama has made the economy worse jumped six points since October to 37 percent. That creates a bigger opening for Republican attacks as the presidential campaign begins to heat up.

The latest viral video by the Republican National Committee hones in on the jobs lost since Obama took office. Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has made “Where are the jobs?” a catchphrase of his campaign. Tea party favorite Michele Bachmann made waves earlier this month when she proclaimed that she would create “real jobs” for Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner if she ousted them.

Still, Obama receives higher marks from crucial independents than Republicans when it comes to jobs. But appeasing his own party could prove to be a bigger challenge.

The Post-ABC poll found that the number of liberal Democrats who strongly support Obama’s record on jobs plunged 22 points from 53 percent last year to 31 percent. The number of African Americans who believe the president’s actions have helped the economy has dropped from 77 percent in October to just over half of those surveyed.

Justin Ruben, executive director of the progressive MoveOn.org, said many people are frustrated by the bitter partisan battle over raising the debt ceiling that has consumed Washington, calling it a “bizarro parallel universe.” Another liberal group, Campaign for America’s Future, said it is planning a national protest Tuesday urging a speedy resolution over the national debt in order to refocus attention on unemployment.

“Many liberal Democrats are hoping that Obama can pivot from defending Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid to putting forward his own plans for creating jobs,” the group’s co-director Roger Hickey said.

Wakim, the used car salesman, is among the self-identified liberal Democrats whose support of Obama has begun to falter. He said he spends as much as $80 on gas each week and has seen other bills rise while business is “hit or miss.”

Wakim said he has applied for a job as a police officer to help pay his bills while he attends community college. The economic downturn has changed his views on politics, and he said he wants Washington to buckle down.

“We’re focusing on too many things right now,” Wakim said. “Our biggest issue is the economy. People are hungry; people want work. Honest to God, it’s tough times.”

I can totally believe Americans are disappointed in Obama, because of all the hype when he was elected - expectations were far higher than anyone could fulfil!

No, they weren't. Although, I honestly doubt McCain would've done much better.

From what I saw on TV, yep, definitely a lot of people were idolising Obama to a ridiculous degree. People never live up to so much romanticising.

Can't always believe what you see on TV.

Also, I must clarify. I didn't have high expectations of him. The people I talk with didn't either. We just wanted him to fix what was wrong. Of course, he never really ran a campaign and that's why I didn't vote for him. "Yes We Can" and "Hope and Change" aren't policy issues, IMO.

However, as President, I did expect him to do what's right for America and to protect the freedom we enjoy. I don't feel like he has.

Well, I suppose the Americans being interviewed on TV could have been lying. Bit of a pointless thing to lie about though. But yes, I'm aware that not all Americans had the same expectations. And also that not all Americans have the same view of 'what's right for America'. Or even the same definition of what and who represent America. Which, to me, is another reason why Obama is bound to disappoint.

The proof is in the pudding. Our economy is still tanking. Unemployment is rising. He obviously did something(s) wrong.

Do you really think the Republicans'/Tea Party's "policy of NO" has nothing to do with the economy? I mean, I think the main problem with Obama's policy is that he's caving to Republican demands of absolutely no new taxes on anyone, and slashing essential government programs. I don't know about unemployment, either, Obama can't really do anything about that.

Granted, he could make an effort (and he's not), but if he were, it'd probably wouldn't be too much better than it is now.

Policy of no? Which side keeps saying no? Two bills to the Senate to deal with the debt ceiling, both tabled (last I heard) without a vote.

Of course he's caving, as well as he should be. He got us here, so he can't very well fix it.

Should be no new taxes. How will new taxes help unemployment? Or the economy?

These gov't programs aren't "essential." If they were, they'd have been around a lot longer than they have been. Americans did great without it before it. These programs are what's driving us into more and more debt. They need to be reformed, at the least.

If Obama can't do anything about unemployment, he doesn't need to promise that he can.

I'm not talking about one single bill that's been on the table for a number of weeks. I'm talking about the last three years of Obama's presidency, and the first two years where both the House and Senate were controlled by the Democrats. If you didn't know about the Policy of No, then you just haven't been following politics that closely.

Did you know that there are a few Republicans who are voting against ever debt ceiling increase bill simply to let America default? For political points?

Of course he's caving, as well as he should be. He got us here, so he can't very well fix it.

I sincerely want you to lay out, step-by-step, how Obama got us to where we are. I'm not being disingenuous. You seem to know something I don't about him and his policies, so please enlighten me.

Raising taxes would bring in revenue. Simple as that. We shouldn't be lowering taxes and cutting programs that people rely on to survive, especially at a time when it's damn near impossible to get a job. And I'm not even talking about middle class tax increases, though I wouldn't be opposed to that either. I'm talking about tax increases on those who make over 250,000. If you can't see how this brings in much-needed revenue, then I'm really at a loss at what else to say.

Obama can't do anything about employment because he's too busy trying to keep everyone happy in the political atmosphere. He's too busy campaigning and not doing enough leading.

obongo is the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. if he says he is going to do something then god dammit he had better do it. but he will not because even though he is the worst president in the history of this country, the liberals will still defend him because he is black...

Taxes would bring in revenue...and keep unemployment up, as well, but that's second, right? It would also give more reason to not investing in America. Or building manufacturing plants here. But, let's keep the poor people on govt dole, bc that's how an economy grows? Not in the least.

Spending got us here. Dems started that skyrocket in2007 when they took congress, and Obama ramped it up. Spending got us here. That's why credit agencies said we must cut spending to keep our credit rating. But we didn't..and we didn't.

Obama can't do anything about employment because he doesn't seem to u derstand that the taxes he wants creates uncertainty and instability in the very people that he wants to create jobs. They won't until there is some certainty and stability. Continuing to raise taxes provide neither.

Also, talking about the policy of no: Dem senate hasn't come up with a budget in 830+ days..and counting. Obama hasn't produced anything since his failed 97-0 in his own party-controlled senate.

[American|0 likes] [|reply]

Okay, the spending got us here. No one has disputed that. But instead of pointing fingers and laying blame, how about we talk about ways to increase revenue, because even with this atrocious debt ceiling bill, we're not going to see a decrease in the debt. It just slowed down its progress.

You've done this before, and this is one of the things I always have to evade from you -- you're more interested in pointing fingers than you are actually responding to any of my points.

The tax rates we have now are the lowest we've had, ever. If the companies weren't outsourcing their jobs then, what makes you think they're doing them now.

But to go even further, let's talk tax loopholes.

Exxon Mobil? 19 billion in profits in 2009. Not only did they not pay a cent in federal taxes, but they got 156 million from the IRS.

Bank of America? 1.9 billion tax refund. 4.4 billion in profits, and something like a 900 billion bail out.

Carnival Cruise Lines? 11 billion in profits, 1.1% taxed.

Citigroup: 4 billion in profits. Paid no federal taxes.

If you're going to sit here and tell me that these huge corporations not paying taxes isn't contributing to the problem, and that closing loopholes and raising their taxes is going to FURTHER the problem, then you're flat-out wrong. Plain and simple.

Can you even name a company that has a history of outsourcing jobs due to higher tax rates? Because they were higher under Clinton, and the economy was relatively stable back then, with a lower unemployment rate than we have now. So please, PLEASE show me some sources.

Lastly, I don't know what the budget has to do with unemployment, but I'm just assuming you're pointing the finger at the "bad things" democrats are doing to contrast with the Republicans.

This is precisely what happens when you elect someone because they are black and not for their plans. In his case he was more focused on mud slinging the other candidates than actually discussing his agenda. Hopefully americans will stop looking at skin color and find a worthy president next term. (and all the others after that)
