Kinda Want To Fight

02/27/2014

I want to join the Army I think. Wish I'd have come to this conclusion earlier in life.. Back when I was younger. It would be awesome to be a spec ops guy or maybe a tank operator. The scout sniper job also appeals to me quite a bit. But I know I'm not cut out for it. For any of it, that's what really sucks. I'm too old to do anything but Army. And it seems like its to late to really amount to anything in the army that's worth all the trouble. Ahhh, in another life perhaps.

I always thought joining the army would be interesting, until I realised I'd never pass the fitness test....

Last year I was close! I'm not in shape really at all.. But I did get to where I could run the two miles under the set time they have and could do the number of push ups and sit ups they require. I was pretty much ready to go... This is going to sound really stupid.. And pretty lame to anyone currently in the military but I saw a video of a soldiers boot melting to the pavement in either Afghanistan or Iraq and learned that it gets up to around 140 degrees.

I don't think I could handle that heat. Dressed in normal clothes let alone all the gear they have to wear. Plus it gets 10 or 15 degrees hotter inside of a tank and that's really where I wanted/want to be. So I basically backed out because of the weather. I still have a few years before I'm to old so I might still do it.. But who knows?

I never even thought about the heat but I think you're totally right! I don't think I could handle the heat at all!!
What was the two mile set time and push up amount?

That's how I understand it at least. I could be wrong... But I'm pretty sure that's it.

Have to be able to do at least 30 push ups and 36 sit ups in two minutes. That's the very minimal amount. Plus be able to run two miles in under 17:54. That's the requirements for my age bracket for the next three years. Also it's different for men and women.

But even if you can't do that they will still put you through basic training. After basic you MUST be able to do that or your out. But it's easy. I was able to to do that before I was even going to go. It's best to be able to at least do that minimum stuff before you go so you don't DIE during basic training.

Sadly.... I kinda am. Cause I would LOVE to join the air force (helicopter pilot) or coast guard. But you have to enlist before you are 22 or 23. As far as the Army, you have to enlist before the age of 34 I wanna say, or 33. Something like that. So while I can always dream about it ill never be able to do it.
