Chapter 5:
I decided to sleep through the day because that night, Cheyenne and I were planning on keeping track of Anna's every movement. I wasn't quite sure yet how we would accomplish that, but I was determined not to let Cheyenne go through it alone.
Once I drifted off into the closest state of sleep that I could, I began to dream. It was very rare that I got into enough of a state of sleep to even pretend to dream. I was walking through a dark alley that opened up to a large open field. A lake was sitting in the middle and it was surrounded by people. They all turned around and greeted me cheerfully, most of those faces I didn't know, then immediately turned into at least a hundred bats. I screamed and began to run, but when I turned to look back, I ran directly into a gorgeous, tall man. When she looked up, I realized it was Damian.
“Oh, Damian! Please help me!” I screamed.
“I'm here for you. Don't worry. See? Turn around.” He pointed to the lake.
I turned to find that there was no one there; no crazy bats trying to get to me, no unfamiliar faces.
“Thank you so much!” I smiled, and turn to look at him again, except when turned, Damian was no longer there. A large black panther sat in front of me, growling and showing it's teeth; it's eyes glowed a deep, crimson red. It hunkered down, steadied it's legs, and jumped straight for my face.
I closed my eyes and screamed; a blood-curdling one. I was pushed back onto the soft grass, protecting my face with my arms. When the panther didn't attack, I opened her eyes. I looked over and saw my clock; it showed that it was six forty-five.
“Amelia!” Cheyenne came bursting into my room. “What happened? Are you okay? You're covered in sweat!”
“I'm sorry, Chey. It was just a bad dream.” I pulled myself from the enveloping bed and walked to our adjoining bathroom and began to wash my face. When I stood up, Cheyenne was leaning in the doorway, looking concerned.
“What was the dream about?” Cheyenne questioned. “Was Anna in it?”
I thought back to my dream, trying to remember as it was starting to get fuzzy. “No, not that I can remember. It was at the lake, and Damian was there. There were these bats...”
“Okay, just come and sit down. I'm going to go get you some DD so you won't have to worry about finding blood tonight.”
“Thanks, Chey.” I was happy that Cheyenne cared so much about me. Whenever I had a rough day, she would make a run for Dark Desire if we didn't have any in the kitchen. Luckily, today we had a cabinet full of it.
After Cheyenne walked out the door to get my beloved blood, I fell back onto my pillow. I couldn't figure out why I had dreamed about Damian in that manner. I couldn't even imagine him ever hurting me.
I decided to get up and check some things on my computer. Once I had turned it on, I went online to my email account. Seeing as how I hardly ever got on the computer anymore, my inbox was probably full of spam. The web page came up, showing the regular updates. I had two new comments on my blog, the usual forward messages from Cheyenne, and another one that the bottom that I definitely didn't expect.
“Damian Rockwell has sent you an email. Click here to read further.” Interesting. How did he even find my email? I was confused but opened the email immediately, trying not to get too excited about hearing from him.
Amelia,
I know I should probably be trying to call you or something, but I decided I wouldn't bother you. I'm sure you're still trying to get settled in. When you get the chance, maybe you could call me? I was wondering if you might want to see the town one evening. Let me know if you are interested! Talk to you later.
Damian R.
Wow. He wants to take me out? Oh my god! I gotta call him before we leave.
“Here's your drink!” Cheyenne bounced in, in a particularly better mood. “What's that?”
“An email from Damian!” I exclaimed, jumping in my seat like a schoolgirl. “He wants to hang out one evening! Can you believe it? What do I do? He wants me to call him; I think I will before we leave.”
“That's great! Yeah, of course you should call him! I knew he liked you, but you just wouldn't listen!” Cheyenne joked. “Drink up, and make your phone call. We have to leave in twenty minutes.” Cheyenne bounced her way back out of the room, not before turning around to give me a scrunched up face that looked like she were kissing someone.
I shook my head, but smiled all the while. Cheyenne was a crazy girl. I love her, though.
I drank my Dark Desire quickly, barely tasting it as it went down my throat, and picked up my cell phone. I pulled the napkin that Damian had written his phone number on out of my wallet and laid it on the table in front of me. I opened her phone and began to dial. Once the phone began to ring, I started shaking. I was so scared that it might have all just been a big joke.
“Hello?” A voice said on the line.
“Hello, can I speak to Damian, please?” I asked.
“This is he. This wouldn't happen to be Amelia would it?”
I let go a sigh of relief, “Yes! I got your email! How are you?”
“I'm great. My roommate came down to hang out in town for a bit, so we were thinking of maybe
going to the town fair tomorrow night. You wouldn't happen to be interested, would you?”
“Yeah, I think I would like that. But on one condition!” I said, giggling.
“Oh yeah? What's that?” Damian replied.
“I have to bring my, uh, sister. She absolutely loves the fair.” I immediately regretted my request. Why would he want me to bring someone else?
“Of course! It'll be great. It will give Jay someone to talk to!” Damian laughed.
“Okay, great! What time?” I was so nervous she could hardly stand it.
“How's eight sound?”
“That sounds great. We'll be ready. Do you want us to meet you somewhere?”
“No! We'll pick you up! But I gotta run for now, dinner is ready. Have a great night!”
“You too!” I pressed the 'end' button and sunk down onto my bed.
“AH! What happened?” Cheyenne exclaimed, running back into my room so quick that I could be
certain she was standing outside the door listening.
“He wants us to go to the fair with him and his roommate tomorrow night at eight!” I jumped up and bounced around, barely able to contain my excitement.
Cheyenne immediately began screaming, clapping, and bouncing around with me.
I didn't lose my high all night! I couldn't believe that it was happening. Though, I dreaded having to tell Malacai about it. I realized I didn't have to do it any time soon, so I left that thought behind.
