Ch. 5 - Dark Desire

08/19/2010

Okay, this is from my vampire story. You will eventually realize that I am starting to go a whole new direction here. I'm almost positively going to change it into an adult fiction and things are going to start flipping around for better or worse. I hope you enjoy! I have a bit more time to write now so hopefully you'll get more chapters. I really do need to thing of a name for this...hmmm...."Hunters"? "Dark Desire"? Hmmm...I like Dark Desire a lot. What do you think? Hope you guys enjoy it, and as always, please comment if you have read this. Even if it's just a comment saying "I read it", I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Chapter 5:

I decided to sleep through the day because that night, Cheyenne and I were planning on keeping track of Anna's every movement. I wasn't quite sure yet how we would accomplish that, but I would not let Cheyenne go through it alone.

Once I drifted off into the closest state of sleep that I could, I began to dream. It was very rare that I got into enough of a deep sleep to even pretend to dream. I was walking through a dark alley that opened up to a large open field. A lake was sitting in the middle and it was surrounded by people.

They all turned around and greeted me cheerfully, most of those faces I didn't know, then immediately turned into at least a hundred bats. I screamed and began to run, but when I turned to look back, I ran directly into a gorgeous, tall man. When she looked up, I realized it was Damian.

“Oh, Damian! Please help me!” I screamed.

“I'm here for you. Don't worry. See? Turn around.” He pointed to the lake.

I turned to find that there was no one there; no crazy bats trying to get to me, no unfamiliar faces.
“Thank you so much!” I smiled, and turned to look at him again, except when I turned, Damian was no longer there. A large black panther sat in front of me, growling and showing its teeth; its eyes glowed a deep, crimson red. It hunkered down, steadied its legs, and jumped straight for my face.

I closed my eyes and screamed; a blood-curdling one. I was pushed back onto the soft grass, protecting my face with my arms. When the panther didn't attack, I opened my eyes. I looked over and saw my clock; it showed that it was six forty-five.

“Amelia!” Cheyenne came bursting into my room. “What happened? Are you okay? You're covered in sweat!”

“I'm sorry, Chey. It was just a bad dream.” I pulled myself from the enveloping bed and walked to our adjoining bathroom and began to wash my face. When I stood up, Cheyenne was leaning in the doorway, looking concerned.

“What was the dream about?” Cheyenne questioned. “Was Anna in it?”

I thought back to my dream, trying to remember as it was starting to get fuzzy. “No, not that I can remember. It was at the lake, and Damian was there. There were these bats...”

“Okay, just come and sit down. I'm going to go grab you some DD so you won't have to worry about finding blood tonight.”

“Thanks, Chey.” I was happy that Cheyenne cared so much about me. Whenever I had a rough day, she would make a run for Dark Desire if we didn't have any in the kitchen. Luckily, today we had a cabinet full of it.

After Cheyenne walked out the door to get my beloved blood, I fell back onto my pillow. I couldn't figure out why I had dreamed about Damian in that manner. I couldn't imagine him hurting anyone.
I decided to get up and check some things on my computer. Once I had turned it on, I went online to my email account. Seeing as how I hardly ever got on the computer anymore, my inbox was probably full of spam. The web page came up, showing the regular updates. I had two new comments on my blog, the usual forward messages from Cheyenne, and another one at the bottom that I definitely didn't expect.

“Damian Rockwell has sent you an email. Click here to read further.” Interesting. How did he even find my email? I was confused but opened the email immediately, trying not to get too excited about hearing from him.

Amelia,

I know I should probably be trying to call you or something, but I decided I wouldn't bother you. I'm sure you're still trying to get settled in. When you get the chance, maybe you could call me? I was wondering if you might want to see the town one evening. Let me know if you are interested! Talk to you later.

Damian R.

Wow. He wants to take me out? Oh my god! I gotta call him before we leave.

“Here's your drink!” Cheyenne bounced in, in a particularly better mood. “What's that?”

“An email from Damian!” I exclaimed, jumping in my seat like a schoolgirl. “He wants to hang out one evening! Can you believe it? I'm gonna call him in a few minutes.”

“That's great! Yeah, of course I can believe it! I knew he liked you, but you just wouldn't listen!” Cheyenne joked. “Drink up, and make your phone call. We have to leave in twenty minutes.”
Cheyenne bounced her way back out of the room, not before turning around to give me a scrunched up face that looked like she were kissing someone.

I shook my head, but smiled all the while. Cheyenne is a crazy girl. I love her, though. .

I drank my Dark Desire quickly, barely tasting it as it went down my throat, and picked up my cell phone. I pulled the napkin that Damian had written his phone number on out of my wallet and laid it on the table in front of me. I opened my phone and began to dial slowly. Once the phone began to ring, I started shaking. I was so scared that it might have all just been a big joke.

“Hello?” A voice said on the line.

“Hello, can I speak to Damian, please?” I asked. Oh God. Why am I doing this? My hands were trembling so hard, I could barely hold the phone to my ear.

“This is he. This wouldn't happen to be Amelia would it?”

I let go a sigh of relief, “Yes! I got your email! How are you?”

“I'm great. My roommate came down to hang out in town for a bit, so we were thinking of maybe going to the town fair tomorrow night. You wouldn't happen to be interested, would you?”

“Yeah, I think I would like that. But on one condition!” I said, giggling. I couldn't go without Cheyenne. She deserved to get out and have some fun every now and then.

“Oh yeah? What's that?” Damian replied.

“I have to bring my, uh, sister. She absolutely loves the fair.” I immediately regretted my request. Why would he want me to bring someone else?

“Of course! It'll be great. It will give Jay someone to talk to!” Damian laughed. I forgot he said he was bringing his roommate along! That would be perfect!

“Okay, great! What time?” I was so nervous I could hardly stand it.

“How's eight sound?”

“That sounds great. We'll be ready. Do you want us to meet you somewhere?”

“No! We'll pick you up! But I gotta run for now, dinner is ready. Have a great night!”

“You too!” I pressed the 'end' button and sunk down onto my bed.

“AH! What happened?” Cheyenne exclaimed, running back into my room so quick that I could be certain she was standing outside the door listening.

“He wants us to go to the fair with him and his roommate tomorrow night at eight!” I jumped up and bounced around, unable to contain my excitement.

Cheyenne immediately began screaming, clapping, and bouncing around with me.

I didn't lose my high all night! I couldn't believe all this was happening. Though, I definitely dreaded having to tell Malacai about it. I realized, though, that I didn't have to tell him any time soon, so I left that thought behind.

Cheyenne and I met downstairs after we both took time to get in good running attire for the night. We hid behind the house, being completely silent. For the first time in years, we used our telekinesis to talk to each other. It was Cheyenne who thought of it and threw the first thought.

I hope she doesn't take too long to come out. I want to find out what's going on as soon as possible and get all of this over with. I heard her voice in my head. She also sent me images of Anna being dragged away by the High Knight's guards and thrown behind bars.

Cheyenne! Don't think that way! We don't know what she is doing. We have to give her the benefit of the doubt until we know otherwise. I knew Anna was probably becoming a Hunter, but I just didn't want to believe it yet.

We stood silently for another few minutes. The front door finally gave a squeak, signaling the departure of Anna. The only thing that really got my adrenaline flowing was that Joel was walking by her side.

Whoa! Why is Joel with her? Do you think she's going to try to convert him? We can't let her do this! I was frantic. How could she think she would get away with this? After all we'd done for her, there was no way I was going to let her go.

I don't know, but this is just one more reason to follow them and find out. Let's go. Cheyenne crouched low on the ground, running towards the trees. I followed silently behind her, keeping all of my senses on alert so that I could track Anna and Joel if they got too far ahead.

We had stalked through the forest for what seemed like days when we finally came to a break in the trees that I hadn't come across yet in my solitary adventures through the woods.

Immediately, Cheyenne began conveying orders through our connection, and concocting images showing me how she wanted this to all play out. In front of us lay a deserted highway, covered in a light layer of rain that I had apparently missed while dreaming of panthers. On the other side, there was a bar with a vulgar picture of a woman sitting on top. It was a rather large building, and had enough cars in the parking lot to tell me that the place was packed. I heard a faint hip-hop song coming from the front door as people entered and left.

Anna and Joel had already crossed the road and were getting ready to go into the bar. Joel looked back, as if he could feel us there. I hoped that he could. He had to know that we were there for him if things got sticky. I felt trickles of fear and anticipation flowing from him. He was not coming here because he wanted to. I assumed Anna coaxed him into going by making him feel bad about them not spending time together. She would probably sink that low, what with the attitude she had taken on lately.

After they had spoken to the bodyguard and walked through the door, Cheyenne and I began to walk casually across the road.

“What can I do for you ladies?” He asked when he noticed our arrival.

“We were hoping to get in tonight. Is that cool?” Cheyenne stared deeply into his eyes. She was always good with lightening people’s emotions.

“Well, there’s a band playing tonight. You’re supposed to be on the guest list. But….” He eyed us both up and down, “okay, I guess. Take these.” He pulled two tickets from his pocket that were blood red and had “Vial Gathering” written in jagged black letters. I knew exactly what this was.
Vial is a band that traveled around to small towns in hopes of finding naïve young girls to feed on. They were a group of at least six vampires and they preyed on their fans. After each concert they would grab several girls from the audience and bring them backstage. By the next morning they would be almost completely drained without a single memory of how they ended up wherever they were.

Drinking human blood is like that though. Once a human is so close to being drained, it’s like being on drugs. They feel detached from the world and have not the slightest indication of why. One thing that helps us vampires is that we can affect anyone’s mood. If I will my mood to convey fear, no one will be comfortable around me. If I will it to convey happiness, I will have at least three new best friends by the end of the night.

“Thank you so much!” Cheyenne said, flaunting a wicked sweet smile. She was always a bit better at the mood conveying than I was.

He unhooked a black rope from a pole and moved aside to let us in. I shot a seductive glance in his direction before following Cheyenne threw the door. He smiled sheepishly and turned to look back at the quiet road, waiting for the next potential customers. We walked down a long hallway, lit by red and black lights. There was also a strobe light flashing from the end of the hall.

Are you ready for this, Chey? Nothing bad is going to happen tonight. I have willed it to the Universe.

Willing something to the Universe is pretty much like praying. The only difference is that you are not asking for something to happen. You are willing it to happen by using all of your energy and willpower into it. As long as you believe that whatever it is will be taken care of, there is no need to fear.

You know I’m ready, girl. I just want to get to the bottom of this and get back to our normal lives, if you can call them that. She replied to me through thought.

We came to the end of the hallway, where the music was blasting. When we rounded the corner, the first thing our eyes came to was the lead singer of Vial grabbing the hand of our beloved Anna and pulling her onto the stage. She had a look of absolute happiness.

What the hell? Does she know them? Where is Joel? Questions were flying through my head. I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I didn’t like the looks of it at all.
