Hey guys, what do you think of Google Wave? Have you gotten an invite yet? Does it look like something that will turn out to be the "next big thing" or will it just be a novelty for a short while?
I got an invite from a friend earlier today, but due to the lack of people I know who have it, it is kind of...empty. I haven't gotten to use hardly any of its features, including the "live typing" thing. |

How do you get an invite? I have gmail and all that but I looked up google wave and it doesn't even tell you who had the privileges in the first place?

I have gmail too, and I totally want an invite, just to see what it is.

I don't really understand what it is, could you explain it to me?
You should totally invite me, though ;D |

Yea, without people to talk to on there, it is pretty boring. I have 4 on my list. ha.
All in all, it may be a good site one day when they complete it. I was a little disappointed though when I first saw it. Not sure what I was thinking, but I expected more I guess. |

Is it just random?
I don't use Google email, but I'm guessing they only go to gmail users. I just looked up an explanation of what it does and watched a video. IN-SANE. |

For all you people who are asking what Google Wave is
It's basically a merge between e-mail, messaging, and social networking. There's a bunch of innovative shit crammed in it, and if done well and right, it should completely replace e-mail within the next few years. Other companies will be mirroring what Google Wave is doing for all three of these things. You can look up all the specifics here. |

The reason invites are required is that it is technically still in "preview" mode, so not all features work correctly. You can get an invite through any email provider (Hotmail, Yahoo, ISP, etc), but you have to create a Google account to use Google Wave. Since they're free, it isn't much of a fuss.

Ah, so it's kind of like gmail was at first, then. I got my gmail years ago, but I had to have a friend invite me in able to set up the account. So basically, since I already have a gmail account, I can use Google Wave? Or no? Lol.

Oddly enough, no. :( Google isn't inviting anyone just because they have Gmail. Basically, people fill out this form and they get an invite when Google decides they want more users on Google Wave.
