If you had to give up either vision or hearing, which would you give up?
When I voted just now, I was shown these results: Hearing 42 Vision 12 I'm genuinely shocked that more people would rather lose their hearing. I rely so much more on my hearing than my sight as it is. I think I'd go insane if I couldn't hear anything (and had no option to recover my hearing). It's a funny thing for a photographer to say, but I could survive as a blind person. Without hearing, however, my world may look the same, but having my internal dialogue as my only vocal company would make it an awfully lonely place. |

i would think this can be offensive when it comes to deaf people, but because i know its just a poll and it doesnt mean anything - but of course i picked losing my hearing even tho im already deaf! lol
i love playing "if you have to choose" |

I think that if I chose to give up my sight, I would lose too many of the things I love.
I love being able to read, crochet, knit, go on the internet, drive, just sit around and look at things. I'd miss music, but I'd get over it. I don't constantly have it on, and I only really listen to it while I'm driving. I'd probably miss talking a lot. |

I'd way rather lose my vision. Music is such an integral part of my happiness, and unfortunately, you can't -feel- music through your computer or tv -chuckles-

Not hearing music would be really hard but other than that I think it would be much easier than losing your vision! If you lose your vision wouldn't it be a lot more challenging? As in wouldn't you need more help from others, more effort to get around and stuff like that? You'd be more 'disabled' for lack of a better word.

I couldn't live without being able to see my daughter's face. I just couldn't.

I am the same way Steph. I cannot go without seeing my babies, even when they get on my last nerve and I tell them I want to sell them, I still cannot help but smile when I get a cute little smirk from them. It would be very hard however, not to hear them talk, seeing as how they say the cutest things. Latest quote from Chloe "I am not being bad mom, I am just being me". LOL.

yeah but were you born deaf? if i had to lose my hearing and had no way of being able to hear at all [no hearing aids etc] then i wouldn't be able to hear music. having had that sense and then losing it, feeling music would not be as good for me. especially since i actually hate that sensation. going anywhere with a lot of bass and having it vibrate around in my chest. makes me ill.

I'm doing a subject regarding seeing and so forth and yeh, the results i've been seeing throught the subject are the same, seeing is regarded to most people as the most important sense, I think followed by hearing. But people would rather have the ability to see. Apparently.

I would much rather be deaf, I had a bad ear infection once and couldn't hear anything for a few days and it didn't bother me too much, it was a nice excuse to ignore people!

Hearing... I need vision, it's how I function. I like doing things in life, I don't need to hear to do, but almost everything I enjoy doing, I need to be able to see.

As a person with a mild hearing impairment as well as a vision problem [I wear glasses all the time], I have to say that, while it's close, I'd rather lose my vision.
While I would find it hard to write without being able to see, I could learn Braille and do it that way, but I don't think I could give up music. Scratch that - I couldn't give up music. |

I'd have to go with being deaf. And for very much the same reason as Baby makes 4 said...
While i LOVE music, I love movies, reading, and i couldnt live without being able to see my sons face, his smile. Yes, not being able to hear his voice anymore (or at all) would SUCK.... but not being able to know what he looks like, or see a smile on his face... i couldnt do that. |
