I am 30 weeks pregnant and well this is my THIRD baby! I am looking into getting my tubes tied after I have her but I am so scared and nervous about the whole thing!

Have you had your tubes tied? What was your recovery time? How did it go? How much pain were you in afterwards and for how long?

UGH! ANY info will help. I know theres a bunch of sites but I wanna hear from my bloopers! lol. At least I know your gonna be more truthful than the websites!
PLEASE HELP!

The least invasive thing you can possibly do is go back to condoms, probably.

My mom had her tubes tied after my brother; but as far as I'm aware she never had any complications with it. Light periods and all that. (idk if that's common?)

My sister on the other hand, had her tubes tied - and had a LOT of complications. She recovered fairly well... not much pain from what I remember. But her period is what was effected the most. Changing an overnight pad every hour (or less than most of the time) and completely unable to leave the house. She was so miserable that her doctors started talking hysterectomy. I believe she did have the hysterectomy scheduled at some point because she was so miserable. (She passed away about a year after the procedure - completely non related though!)

I have heard vasectomies are a lot more popular now. As far as I am aware it's an in-and-out procedure, done in a doctor's office with local anesthesia. The guy just can't drive home afterwards... but it's a lot better than getting tubes tied (IMO!)

My dad got snipped right after my brother was born. His recover time was quick(from what I remember).

An ex-coworker got her tubes tied and she was in a lot of pain. She was out for 2 weeks, I think.

My husband doesn't want anymore kids but doesn't wanna get snipped. I'm not gonna put myself in crazy anounts of pain b.c he doesn't want anymore. Shit, I went through 24 hours of labor for both kids, the least he could do is get that done!!

How selfish! You had the kids the least he could do is get a simple procedure. I don't understand his logic, if he doesn't want anymore then why not get snipped? Is it some pride thing?

Why do you feel you have to get a major surgery? You had the babies! Make your husband get a vacotomy. It's a easier recovery than you going through all that.

I think everyone has a right to choose if they want to be fertile. I don't think doctors should have the right to tell people they want to be sterile.

I completely agree with you, if I didn't want anymore children there is absolutely no way I would rely on condoms or medical contraceptives, men and women should be free to control their own fertility, not a doctor.

Hmm... so they'll sterilise you but not your husband, because you have one more biological kid than he does?

So they're basing this decision on the premise that your husband will want to impregnate other women in his future, rather than staying faithful to you. And that you, as the woman, are more likely to have had enough of procreating and will instead want to devote what's left of your energies to child-rearing. Whereas your husband, not being tied down by the physical constraints of pregnancy and breast-feeding, will not want to be tied down with you, but will want to be out there spreading his seed around the female population.

I guess they're basing this on statistics, but surely it'd be more constructive to view you together as a unit, since this is about family planning, and do what's best for you both, rather than acting on the assumption you're unlikely to stay together!

@myhold5: that's the same thing that happen to my ex co-worker.. Her dr said no and she was like "fine, I'll just keep getting abortions." Which was a total lie, she just wanted her dr to end up doing it.

Personally I understand what the doctors are saying about your hubby, and not so much about yourself... unless there are medical reasons I don't think a person male or female can know without doubt that in 10 years time they might not want another baby... personally I would go with condoms and birth control for the next 10 years and if you still want to get your tubes tied then.. of course just my opinion, you can of course do what you like, just seems an awful lot of pain to go through for something that might end up being a mistake.

I agree. I don't think anyone should undergo sterilisation under the age of 25 without VERY good reason (like they can't use other methods of contraception for some reason). Because none of us know what might happen in the future.

Have you thought about and IUD? I've heard lots of good things about them! I personally haven't gotten one, because we've been TTC for 3 years, but LOTS of my friends have them, and they LOVE them. I do know of a few people that have had complications, but I that's just going to happen with anything...

UGH!
