For those of you who in the US who just LOVE Starbucks' holiday drinks, they're having a buy one, get one free weekend!
I'm not really a fan of the holiday drinks, personally, but I thought I'd pass along the info in case anyone else likes them! Valid November 17-20th. For more info (like the flavors!), check out their website: Starbucks Let's Merry! |

Cool, thanks! I've never actually been to a Starbucks before, but I live really close to one and have wanted to see what all the buzz is about. This is probably the incentive I was looking for lol

@poetic justice: I'm not really into coffee at all, so I usually have hot chocolate when I go (which friggen SUCKS btw. Overpriced chocolate-ish water). But I hear the holiday ones are really good. My cousin swears by the pumpkin flavored ones.

PUMPKIN-flavoured? Bleeeeeeeeghhh.

Eww yeah the hot chocolate at Dunkins isnt terrible, but when they make it wrong it is just like that... Chocolate flavored water. I love their Pumpkin coffee, but I've only ever had it at Dunkins

I'm very picky about my hot chocolate. The best I've had is at the cafe at my university. It's exactly like I make it at home, and it's just delicious! :)
I don't go to dunkin donuts very much... I'll have to try them sometime. They have one with a drive-thru on my way to the interstate. |

Hopefully you'll like them! But like I said, it's pretty hit or miss. The odds seem to be like 60-40 in favor of them actually making it right :/ And I agree, home made is the way to go!

@Jellyka: We always got tons of complaints about the hot chocolate because a lot of people expected it to be sweeter than it is. The mocha syrup is a really rich, dark chocolate, so it isn't sweet at all; to balance it out, vanilla syrup is added, but for people who prefer sweeter hot chocolate, extra vanilla needs to be added (or they could ask for less mocha). And if the barista doesn't properly swirl the cup after some of the milk is poured in, it doesn't mix properly and the bottom is more chocolaty than the top.

@Toffee sprinkles: ooh! I'll have to try that the next time. Really confuse someone when I say 'hot chocolate with extra vanilla, please.' ;D

@Jellyka: Yes, try it and let me know if it's any better! They may ask you how many pumps of vanilla you want in it, though. The tall and grande both have one pump of vanilla; if you don't think it's sweet at all, you may need to to ask for a total of 3 pumps in the tall, and 4 in the grande. The venti has two pumps of vanilla; so you may need to ask for a total of 5 if you don't think it's sweet at all. Of course, you can always make adjustments as needed ^-^

Thank you! There's a starbucks in my work building, so my co-workers and I are already taking advantage of this!

I wish they did it for normal, non-flavoured coffees. xD
As an aside, my favourite Starbucks drinks (i.e. not normal drinks you can get at most places) include their white hot chocolate and their vanilla frappuccino. =D |
Jessica Post Count: 283 |
Eck, I think the hot chocolate at the starbucks is disgusting!
Although over there they may use a different chocolate flavoring. |

I haven't tried their normal hot chocolates... only the white chocolate ones... which I find amazing when I need a sugar hit. xD It's possible too that we use different ingredients, or get them from somewhere else, or something.

me too!
i really don't like their holiday menu. black tea lemonade, 4 pumps raspberry, with classic and extra ice, green tea frappuccino are where it is at. |

OH MY GOD.
But, darn, this is for US only? Bring it to the UK! =P Well, I have a voucher to get any drink from Starbucks =D |
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
It came to the UK two weeks ago, yo! You totally missed it!
|

Gosh, is the UK Starbucks actually ahead of the US one? We had this deal a couple of weeks ago - a friend and I both had a gingerbread latte, two for the price of one. But then last week, when we tried to do it again, the offer had finished, alas! Our offer was a bit different - we had four holiday drinks. One was praline mocha - I totally had one of those too. The other two were toffee nut latte and eggnog latte. No peppermint latte or caramel brulée here.
|
Jessica Post Count: 283 |
How odd!
I know that a lot of people (at least where I am!) don't like eggnog... so I could see that one not being as popular here. I also think they have some sort of toffee flavored one year round. I'm not sure if it's toffee nut though. |
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
Eggnog isn't really a thing here at all - I'm surprised we have an eggnog latte. Maybe it's the exotic sense of something unknown. I can't imagine it being popular though - gosh, I had eggnog cappuccino in a coffee shop in Canada once, and it tasted like vomit! They even let me have a different flavour free of charge because I hated it so much!
|
Jessica Post Count: 283 |
Strange! I totally though eggnog was popular over in the UK ;D
|
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
Not that I know of (unless there are strange eggnog drinking communities I don't know of! ;D). I'd never even heard of it till I went to Canada. I assumed it was a North American drink.
|
Jessica Post Count: 283 |
Hmm. I must Wikipedia this!
"The origins, etymology, and the ingredients used to make the original eggnog drink are debated. Eggnog may have originated in East Anglia, England; or it may have simply developed from posset, a medieval European beverage made with hot milk. " There's more, of course. (@ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggnog#History) |
Jessica Post Count: 283 |
To add, it does say that it's more popular in the US/Canada. Maybe the UK-ers just got sick of it? ;D
|
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
Yeah, could be one of the many things that originated here and Americans carried on while we dropped it. Realistically, most American traditions will have originated elsewhere, due to America being such a young country. Like what I posted a while back about pretzels being marketed as the great American snack. Sure, they originated in Europe, but they are now huge in America, and so are thought of as American! Fish and chips aren't really British either, apparently - like, they didn't originate here, but now we are known for them.
