So, I need everyone's thoughts on what the best Anti-virus/security suite program is. I recently got a vicious virus using McAfee and will no longer use it.
I currently use AVG but I absolutely HATE it. So, what other stuff do you guys use and how does it work? I'm not concerned with cost. I'm willing to pay for a GOOD program that will offer me the best security. |

Oh I use AVG and have been really happy with it. My laptop came with McAffee but after experiencing some SERIOUS lag on my comp (like a minute to move my mouse) after updating it I got rid of it.
My dad uses Zone Alarm and has not had any probs but I'm not a fan. How come you don't like AVG? |

I don't like the look or the feel of it. There's no control over the things that I want control over like content filters, IP blocking, and other things and it's extremely annoying because it asks for allowances for every time I get online.
I've been told that Panda is really good but I've also heard it's a resource hog, and I don't want that if I can avoid it. |

whats a resource hog? lol that went way over my head ;D

That does sound annoying, mine doesn't ask me for allowances. Weird!
|
Are you using the free or paid version of AVG? I don't think it has a web proxy, so it wouldn't have content filters. You'd have to use something in combination.
As for the firewall allowances, you should be able to check a box that makes the allowances permanent? |

Oh, yes, Panda! I had that on my old (now deceased) computer. As far as I remember it was pretty good.

Don't listen to these PEONS! (lol :P)
The answer is clearly, without a doubt, Kaspersky. It's been rated as the best antivirus program over and over and over again. http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-security-and-firewall/kaspersky-anti-virus-7/4505-3667_7-32531226.html?tag=mncol;also http://www.kaspersky.com/homeuser You'll thank me later. ;) |

I've looked at Kaspersky a couple times and may try it out. It seems cheap enough and the reviews have always been good.

Kaspersky's fabulous, I've had it on my comp for 3 years and haven't gotten a virus, won't even let me open a music file if it seems corrupted. :0)
I'd go with that |

I have a Mac and I've never had a worry...
My brother's PC on the other hand.... lol I have to look for an anti-virus program for him too.. my friend suggestions AVAST... but i didn't like it too much. I would, however, recommend Spysweeper.. you might like it.. they get rid of all sorts of stuff.. and they have great reviews... their website is: http://www.webroot.com/En_US/index.html (i looooved the spysweeper.. it did work...) and they're affordable! -- at least to me affordable |

Macs still get viruses! I would still love a Mac but I hate the users always coming out saying this. A virus doesn't discriminate over what OS you have!
|
Suzy Post Count: 18 |
I never said that Mac's don't ever get viruses, I said I never had to worry about getting a virus, because it hasn't happened yet.

But most people cannot be bothered to make a virus that effects a mac as more people have windows and its easier to make a virus for windows.

can't stand spysweeper, it fucked around with my computer way too much...
Kaspersky takes care of everything |

I have Norton, but when I renewed it this year it's made my computer go very slow. :P I think next year I'll get something else, and get rid of Norton and free up some space!

I've had Mcafee in the past and liked it. Oh, and something called Panda or something like that.

I've always used McAfee for my computers and have never had a problem. It's always caught anything I've ever had. Which, I havent had many viruses, but not going to myspace really helps with that. That website is shit and dripping with Trojans.

we use Avast, it's actually better than Mcaffee and Norton. Depends on what you do on the computer too.
