So its finals time! I have like 8 papers and a presentation to do in the next two weeks.
Ok this is not my first time dealing with finals but I never seem to get down a good plan before them so that I am not drowning in them.

I was just wondering how other people make it through finals? Any tips?
Posting your finals horrors is also acceptable :)

I remember when I was going through my IB (International Baccaleareate) exams... two years of work put into that one week of exams... oh my. I asked my mom to buy me some gum. lol Oddly enough, that's what I needed. I always felt like I needed something to munch on to help with my stress! Okay, so that wasn't really any advice... sorry!

Just try and make a plan out for yourself... see how much time you have until everything needs to be done and plan out the time you should devote to studying before it. Don't make a crazy plan you don't think you can stick to though, add some breaks in there when necessary. Just make sure you stick to the time of the breaks! Make notes out of everything? Notes always helped me... especially when I'd use nice colours to make it pretty! lol And have food nearby, food is always good.

I was going through this too, and what I did was make a list of big projects, like papers and presentations, that were due. I listed them in order of due date and simply started at the top because I knew I had to do them. I went from 14 to two and will quickly have those things all finished up. I found that having such a substantial list in front of me was all the motivation I needed.

Make a study timetable. That way you don't get to two days before the exam and suddenly realise you haven't covered some really important topics.

And plenty of chocolate!

Chocolate! That's what I was forgetting!

I have been trying using post it notes on my desk to show me that I have a lot to do and should get working on it. It isn't working so well. But I guess I am doing better than I was before. I like being able to take it off and throw it in the garbage individually. It feels like I am accomplishing something! XD

I started a second paper! Although so far I only have two paragraphs done on it.

Starting it is the hardest part. Sometimes I'll just put the heading on my paper and suddenly I feel so much more motivated, lol.

I think getting the heading on the paper is one of the hardest parts. That and the ending!

Start from the middle then! Just start writing and then go back and fix your beggining.

Oh, I'm so glad to be done with college.

Anyway, I used to write down due dates on my calendar. And then I would make a 'daily list' of what I wanted to accomplish. So for like a Monday I would say, "get 1 page of X paper written." "Study for X for 45 minutes." "Get outline completed for X2 paper." etc.

however, since I'm lameski, it never worked (well it did when I was a freshman and sophomore). My last couple years of college I wrote all papers the night before they were due. Larger papers 2 days before they were due. Turns out I put out pretty good work when I'm under pressure. I don't recommend that though :).

Another suggestion to everyone!

If you have a laptop make sure you are working at a desk or table instead of somewhere like on your bed because you get a lot more done!

Also the way I usually do homework is to hop back and forth and for smaller stuff that usually works but dont do that when you have so many papers to write! I now have like 4 papers and my presentation started but nothing is finished or more than half way there...

You know, I think that depends on the person. I always seemed to get a lot more done on my bed than on my desk. Maybe because I felt like there was less things around to get distracted by or need to "clean up" before starting.

study/do work for maybe an hour at a time, then take a fifteen minute break to get up and walk around. i think i heart that the average attention span is only that long, and it's pointless to try to force yourself to do hours and hours of homework. reward yourself with breaks every so often, move around to keep awake and alert.

good luck everyone!

I am a little bit OCD so I like to make lists and schedules. The key to doing that is to be realistic- give yourself enough time, don't try to get everything done at once, schedule in breaks, etc. I would break each project into sections, say okay day 1 you chose topics for each ^_^ Day 2 do research for a couple of them. Take lots of notes. Day 3 research for the rest. Day 4 work on the first papers you researched for, you already took notes! Day 5 do the second batch, and so on. Having some good music on always helps me but I try to stick with instrumentals because lyrics distract me by making me want to sing along XD

Another thing that really helps me for papers is to look at the guidelines and write out each specific point one by one, that way you don't forget to incorporate it in when you're writing. For example I wrote a paper last night about archaeology websites, he had 8 things for each website he wanted me to cover (location, time period, author, etc) so I just made a numbered list and made sure my paper included them somewhere in there.
