I'm just curious to know what all of your opinions are about America? Do you or have you lived/ or visited America? What do you like &/or dislike about it? How do you feel about Americans? Are you familiar with America's laws or government? If so, how do you feel about the way American government is run?

I live in America. and I'd say it's not bad, but of course there are things to complain about.
like: I'm a full-time college student, I don't work that many hours, I live by myself (well, except roommates) and I can't get food stamps or financial assistance. But my crack head drug-dealing disability faker aunt who makes 3-4 times the amount of money I do can get food stamps and financial assistance. Yeah, that makes sense.
I also wish they'd just tell us that aliens exist. I know they do, I just want them to quit lying about it.
Everything in price is going up: gas, food, supplies, postage, bus fares, taxes...but not our wages. we get our jobs taken away and are still expected to take more money out of our pockets.
but I guess I can't complain too much. we have more freedom than other countries and people get away with a lot more here than you would elsewhere, but that's what makes Americans in general so disrespectful and I'm not proud to be known as an asshole just because I'm an American.

I totally feel u about the assistance and the aliens. We so know they're out there. How dumb do they think we are? Are we really that arrogant as a race to beilieve that we're the only sentient life forms in the entire universe? PLEASE! Also I for the longest time (under Bush's reign) was not proud to call myself an American. He's done so much to tear down our country. I know it didn't all start with him, but he was the apex in my eyes.

Well if Americans are like you, and have responses like this... then I don't think much of em!

Why are you being so rude? I can't imagine you started this thread without thinking it would cause drama, and all she did was state that fact. So you respond by calling her names? Seems a little rude and unnecessary to me.

Still, I will answer your question.

Americans are bad and you should feel bad for being an American.

I have never been to America so I have no first hand experience of it!

I don't worry about the US government since it (mostly) won't affect me and I'm not really bothered!

I usually get on fine with Americans, although I lived with one during my first year of uni. She was in a sorority and was a cheerleader and was so 'all-American' that I wanted to punch her a lot of the time!
I find online that many Americans also don't get British sarcasm!

I view America as a place full of hedonism; the Capitalist's dream. I would like to visit but I think it would bother me that it doesn't have much history.
When my uncle went in the 70s with my mom, he was telling me about visiting Alabama and the saloon bars they found there. If that sort of stuff still exists, I'd love to experience that side of it!

This is one of the reasons why I love living here: American History class is easy!

Haha good point! I remember in my year 9 History end of year test (when I was like 14) we had to remember all Britain's kings and queens. No joke. Thankfully though, I had a ruler with them all on, so I aced the test ;D

Wow! I'm in 9th, and we barely have to know our very limited list of Presidents. Amazing! *sigh*

America does have history, NATIVE AMERICANS. They just don't teach it much in the history books. Frankly, being Native American that comment kind of offends me.

Oh gosh you know what I mean! As in, you have no old architecture or old streets. No super old paintings or books. That sort of stuff. Everything seems too modern for my liking.

I agree. I'd happily live in Canada. In social and political terms they're much more like the UK. And they have just as amazing food (especially desserts) as the US does. :)

I assume she meant as a seperate country. Although strictly speaking, both Canada and the USA are seperate countries within north America.

I know, shocking isn't it, the Brits knowing the north American geography better than the Americans! ;)

I'm joking though, I think it's widely recognised that when people say 'America' they usually mean the USA. Still, your response wasn't technically incorrect to the question, even although she acted as if it was.
