I wrote about this in my diary, but I thought I could get more responses this way. Does anyone know how to make cloth diapers? I want to start making them. I think I want to do the AIO and the pocket ones. What materials will I need? How do I sew them? Any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance for any help or advise. =)

Cloth diapers gross me out. I mean there's a HUGE variety of diapers that are both inexpensive & good for the enviornment. Why on earth would you want to use cloth diapers? Cloth diapers are just icky, very much like cloth menstrual pads... e -nuff said. :P :-/ :D :D :D

Some people prefer cloth diapers. Don't like them? Then you don't have to use them. e-nuff said.

Just like anything else, babies can be allergic to certain things in disposable diapers, which is why some parents choose to use the cloth ones.

I really don't see how cloth diapers are gross to begin with. It's pretty much the same thing, just not as thick.
They're both made from cotton, just the cloth ones don't have the absorbent crystals that the diapers have.

I'd be very surprised if there weren't some sort of instructions that you could google.

I found this video on youtube which might be helpful.

As for the mini debate, whilst there are plenty of arguments that suggest that neither is better environmentally, cloth diapers (or nappies as we call them in the UK) are a great deal less expensive.

Personally, I think disposable diapers are grosser than cloth for the simple fact that people think they can leave a disposable on longer. Cloth diapers basically force you to change the diaper AS SOON AS it's messy/wet. Cleaning off a poopy cloth diaper is still nowhere near as gross as allowing your baby to sit in a poopy diaper longer.

I very much agree. Heaven forbid you change your child more.

"people think they can leave a disposable on longer" What "people" are you referring to? As soon as my son shits or goes pee in his diaper, I am on it like white on rice. Any parent who thinks it's ok to let their child sit in a stinky dirty diaper needs to be told that it is NOT ok. :-/ :-P *e -nuff said* :D :D :D

SANITIZED and re-used. There's a difference. They have special diaper washing stuff you can use so you don't have to bleach them and thus use harmful detergents your child might be allergic to. And if you wash them good, it's no different than re-using dishes.

"it's no different than re-using dishes."

*lol*
Yes, there is a difference... we don't shit or pee on our dishes... we put food on them and eat off of them. :p :p :p

It's called SANITIZING. Once it's sanitized, it's as if nothing ever touched it. Educate yourself on cloth diapers, how to use them, and how to clean them.

No one asked for your opinion in the first place. All she wanted was to get information on how to make cloth diapers. And yet everything you say in here is how disgusting cloth diapers are.

Too bad we can't hit the ignore button on people like you.

Ahahaha!!! :D :D :D Forums = the place to voice opinions. I apologise if mine comes across as being a bit bitchy but it is what it is... an opinion & it's mine & if you don't like it, if it gets under your skin remember that you don't have to read it or respond to it. :D :D :D *lol*

So if your child had an explosion of poop, and it got on his/her clothes... would you toss the clothes or wash and use them again?? Same thing.

I can't access it because I'm on my work computer, but send me a message or just reply directly to this comment so I will remember to link you to the youtube video and the diaper pattern I use to make cloth diapers. It's a video and pattern for making pocket ones. And you can pretty much turn them into AIOs if you use PUL fabric for the outside.

don't forget to remind me.

I would also be very surprised if you couldn't find this info online. You probably could also go to a fabric/sewing shop and purchase a pattern for pretty cheap. I'd do lots of research online so that you have different opinions on lots of different places on what's most absorbant/ best against baby's skin/ best for environment/ easiest to travel with, or whatever other concerns you have.

I use cloth as they have less chemicals than disposibles in. plus they save me money especially once we get to baby 2, and also they're not filling up a landfill somewhere like disposibles do-thats definately better for the environment than disposibles

back to the initial topic you tube has a fair few ideas on it.. i made a couple of wraps once but havent got much further than that!! have fun!

Ok I'm new to the whole cloth diaper thing. When they pee does it go through all over them? Or are they made to still soak up the liquid? Explain to me how cloth diapers are used. Is it like my daughters underwear? (She's potty training) And when she has an accident I have to clean everything up and than wash the underwear.

Is that correct?
