I had an endoscopy about a year ago, and they said they couldnt put me under all the way, because I'm allergic to lots of anesthetics, and they weren't quite sure which ones! So I ended up feeling most of what they are doing!! It was hell creepy, but not that bad.

That wouldn't have been an anaesthetic. It would just have been sedation (usually midazolam, which is similar to valium), which makes you sleepy, and may make some people sleep, but in others just makes them feel more relaxed and a little drowsy. It isn't a general anaesthetic (a much deeper sleep). And a side effect of the sedative they use is memory loss, so even if you had been awake, you probably wouldn't remember afterwards!

It was like 5 years ago so I don't remember if they gave me a shot or not. I know she sprayed something that tasted weird into my mouth and my doctor came in and put 3 acupuncture needles into my elbow and 3 seconds later, I was out. Anything else I'm not sure what they did (can't remember since it's been so long). ^__^

Like I say, memory loss is a side effect of the midazolam. It's not surprising you don't remember.
Acupuncture needles is a new one to me though. :-/ |

xD
Yeah I thought that was kinda weird too; the nurse said it was to make the anesthetic be faster. *shrug* It was the 1st and only time I've been put under and 3 seconds was pretty fast to me. XD |

Man, thats really odd. What kind of surgery was it? Every time I've been put under they would inject the anesthesia and tell me to count backwards from 10.. I don't think I've ever gotten past 8, lol.
|
Lauren. Post Count: 885 |
Nevermind, I did what a normal person would do and saw that it was an endoscopy, lol.
|

Hahaha, after I did all that Loo! Jeez. XD
|
Lauren. Post Count: 885 |
Bahahaha. I didn't think they knocked people out completely for an endoscopy! Shows what I know, eh? :P

*lmao* Shoving a camera down my mouth w/ me being awake would've been a freaking out Nikky. NOT a happy camper. XD Gem said that she was awake for hers though. *shudders* That would freak me the fuck out. XD

They don't. It's just sedation. A bit of midazolam usually (similar to valium but shorter acting). And because it's not an anaesthetic, the endoscopist can give it themselves. It doesn't need an anaesthetist. Some people fall asleep, others just feel relaxed. Either way, most people usually think they've been asleep because a side effect of the drug is memory loss, so usually they can't remember the procedure.

Oh no no no no! XD Not surgery; just an endoscopy. ^__^ I didn't need to count; I just remember passing out and then waking up in a darkened room. I'm guessing that it was like 3 seconds b/c it was so fast. I remember looking down and seeing the needles in my elbow, being drowsy, and thinking "wow that was really fast...." Next thing I knew I woke up in the room and it was over. XD

I've never done the counting thing, and I've never seen any other anaesthetist do it, except on TV! Maybe it's an American thing. I just tell people to keep their eyes open as long as they can... when they shut them, they're asleep. :)
I'm fairly sure what Nik is describing is sedation, not an anaesthetic. I've never heard of sedation being sped up with acupuncture but it could be possible (it's used sometimes before an anaesthetic to prevent post-op nausea). I should read about it sometime. |

True, about that 'playing the game' thing. I doubt female surgeons are that bad. Well, the few of them that are out there. xD
|
~RedFraggle~ Post Count: 2651 |
I agree. Female surgeons generally aren't as bad.

A bottom surgeon?!?! Pray tell what is that?!?!?! XD Like plastic surgery you can make your booty bigger b/c it's too flat? Or if it's too fat you can get some taken off?! XD I'm quite amused at the idea of a butt surgeon. XD
|
~RedFraggle~ Post Count: 2651 |
Lol. I assume she means a colorectal surgeon.

Estella Post Count: 1779 |
HAHA - YES, YO, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I JUST CALL HIM A POO DOC, BUT THERE IS A PROPER TERM FOR IT!

*lmao* Awww that was making me sad. We have plastic surgeons here who do exactly what I described. I laughed way too hard when I read that. XD

i don't understand how people don't know that sun beds are much much stronger than the sun. going out in the sun for a little while and absorbing some vitamin d is great, as we need it and it's the best source for getting it, but as you said sun beds and lying around in the sun all day with no protection is only going to do you damage. it's not damage that's immediate either, it's months and years away.

Falling asleep on the beach w/ a towel on your face is not a good skin idea. XD Which I did last Friday. xD I was so comfy and bam, wake up and I'm brown brown leroy brown.
I'm not quite sure why I'm telling you this. XD |

::giggles:: I've ruined your ideas about Robsten fucking. OH NOES!!!!! XD But yes, all the tabs make me laugh. XD The only ones I might remotely believe is Us Weekly and I do believe People. Everything else: BIG HELL NO.
I know I know! XD But I did have SPF 30 sprayed on and I was quite tired. It was just so comfy w/ my headphones in and falling asleep. And the towel on my face kept it from overheating. XD I can't help having some actual sun, it makes my emo-ness go away. ^___^ |
