Of course, to understand why these are funny, you should be familiar with the books. Eek. Anyway... :-P I think the books are quite fun to read, even if - to me, at least - it goes downhill from the second book on. I loved Twilight, New Moon not so much, and Eclipse even less, and people kept warning me that I might not want to read Breaking Dawn because it's really bad, and surprisingly I didn't find it that bad! I would say Twilight and Breaking Dawn are my favorites. :-P This whole Twilight phenomenon is interesting because even though I didn't really think the books are awesome, I still couldn't stop reading them. They just suck you in, kind of.

Yeah... I think the books are pretty bad... but yet I can't stop reading them either!

I liked vampires waaaaay before they were popular *pout*
When you had to struggle along, aged 15, with 10 pages of Anne Rice writing about how the light glinted off some lace... ;D I read a page of Twilight on Amazon and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Dear god. No wonder reading standards are falling! And from what I've heard, the characters are terribly irritating and you want to punch them. Never a good start. Me; I love Lestat ;) |

What disturbs me most is that some teenagers ACTUALLY believe these are GOOD literature! Their English teachers should be ashamed.
Before they were popular? Pre-1997 then? Because Buffy made vampires popular. ;D In fact Twilight is almost like a cheap rip off of the Buffy and Angel love story (which was far better done). |

Ok, I liked vampire books before they were trendy, then ;) Oh, how I loved Buffy! Especially Spike ;)
I tried Dracula but couldn't get along with it. And I agree with people thinking it's good literature... argh! |

Comparing this Twilight garbage to Buffy is blasphemous. Buffy was the greatest vampire epic of all time. It's like comparing Ernest Goes to Prison with The Shawshank Redemption.

Lol. Oh I agree totally. I think Stephanie Meyer's books are a very poor imitation. Buffy was brilliance. Twilight is pretty awful.

Last year I bought my wife the Buffy Box (all 7 seasons together in one heavy-ass box.) We watched the entire series over the course of about three months. Haha.... and will probably start over soon.
I haven't read Twilight, but I've heard some excerpts from the book, and the writing is terrible. The way to really tell if a writer is halfway decent is by the dialogues and conversations. The word "said" should be used most often, rather than other verbs after a vocal statement is made by a character. I just know these two horrific quotes from the book: "'I'm sorry,' I apologized." "'I'm really sorry,' I apologized again." Q#$^!#$!$^#$#! Don't the words "I'm sorry" already express that it is indeed an apology? Is the character making a declarative statement that her name is "Sorry?" Who's on first? |

HAHA that's brilliant! This confirms my suspicions that Meyer is, in fact, a giant douche.

she's awful. so so awful. i honestly don't understand how people get passed the bad writing, and the annoying main characters and actually like the books.

I love the Twilight books... guilty pleasure I guess.
But I swear if I read another story that has someone who purses their lips, I'm going to effing scream. It's like all of her freaking characters PURSE their lips 24/7. WTF! Even in her non-Twilight series books they do it. I think she learned that word one day and thought it was cool and made it her personal duty to share it with the world. BLECH! |

My fave is definitely
"And so the lion fell in love with the lamb." "What a stupid lamb" "What a sick, masochistic lion" I also like "you are my life now" |

I just read this on an anti Twilight group on Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=21713800974&topic=11105
The thing I have against Twilight is this: I am riding on a train in Germany and I overhear a conversation between a comrade Anti-Twilight and a Twilightey. His arguments were that it is poorly written, no substance, no drastic statement, and hardly a piece of literary art. He gives examples, cases, points, and even quotes. The Twilightey, a 17 year old high school student, standing practically defeated, replies (and this horrified me) "I hate reading books with those challenging words and intelligent themes. I hate pushing myself to read and seeing others push themselves on a stupid book. I love reading things that won't challenge me."' That really saddens me! :( |

But, gosh, if those were the words the student used, that demonstrates an admirable amount of eloquence, honesty and self-knowledge - more than I've ever heard before from anyone who has expressed similar sentiments. Although I suppose it is translated from the German, so maybe a rather loose paraphrase was used!
I know a lot of people with that attitude though. But they read to unwind and relax - they want a relaxing hobby rather than a challenging one. Sort of like the people who prefer a relaxing holiday lazing at the beach to an adventure holiday climbing mountains (a preference I can relate to! ;D). |

you know reading isn't my most favourite thing in the world, and i don't read for a challenge either, but for fuck's sake i'd at least like what i'm reading to be well written. whether it's shakespeare or a john marsden book [he did the "tomorrow, when the war began" series]. actually i'm reading john marsden's version of hamlet at the moment, haha ;D
meyer cannot write. at all. or, actually she can. like a 13 year old. she's supposed to have a bachelor's in english. how the hell did she get that? she constantly re-uses phrases and words. it's so repetitive and annoying. antikörper already gave a great example of how bad at english she actually is. |

I really liked the books, I am on CH 3 of the third one. I don't think that it was written poorly. I mean it's not up there with all the classics, but it has a fun theme, and it always keeps you guessing; that's what I like alot about it. I also think Robert Pattison is hotter than the sun. Everyone has there on taste but most of the men hating on him are just jealous.
^ ^ I love him and I'm not fat! lol |

if i were a man i would not be jealous of him. he has a rabid fan girl base. nooooo thank you.
