I think Emma in our flat may be the exception, she is from Guilford, for Non-UKers that is south of London, she thought she was a northerner!

HAHA I'm from Stratford and was classed as a northerner when I was in Kent at uni... I swore I was a Midlander but they wouldn't have it. They all believe that the 'north' is anything above Watford Gap lmao.

HAHA - BUT 'NORTH' IS TOTALLY RELATIVE. IF YOU LIVE IN LONDON, EVERYONE NORTH OF LONDON IS A NORTHERNER, YO! TRANSIT, YOU ARE TOTALLY A NAUGHTY NORTHERNER - LIKE YOU EVEN USE NORTHERNER TERMS LIKE 'MARDY'!

GOSH, NOW I LIVE SO SOUTH THAT EVEN THE LONDONERS ARE NORTHERNERS! THE ENTIRE OF THE UK OTHER THAN ME IS A NORTHERNER, YO! I AM THE SOLE SOUTHERNER! ;D

Actually, I do have one. Is it true that restaurants or stores don't sell iced tea? I read in an anthropology book that, in America during the revolutionary war, if you were caught drinking hot tea you were "in trouble" because that meant that you supported the British Empire. Americans still had to have their tea, though, so they started making iced tea (though the first recipe found, that had been written down, was from much later). I had only eaten in a restaurant twice when in the UK, so I never noticed.

I've always wondered if that was true, though the book was actually quite old. And I don't know which part of the UK you're from so sorry if my question has little relevance. :P

And now I want chips.

Iced Tea isn't very common over here, sadly. I love it!! You will get the odd restaurant that serves it but it's rare :(

I've never seen Iced tea on a menu anywhere, here we have Lipton Ice tea which comes in a plastic bottle, so it isn't exactly something most people would be willing to pay for, to me thats a bit like going to a restaurant and asking for a panda pop.

My cousin works in the Wacky Warehouse and a Panda Pop is over a pound ;D I think it's £1.50 lmao. She always has to tell the parents when they ask for one because she knows they will go mad.

ick! Northern states in the US also sell Lipton like that, or worse, from the fountain-but that is just not right. :-P it tastes strange.
the south has real iced tea-though specifically we call it just 'sweet tea' and you have to specify if you want it unsweetened. :-P

Ah, how I do love my sweet tea.. ;). If you order tea in a restaurant here in the South, you're getting sweet, iced tea unless you ask otherwise! :P

With the exception of fast food, I think most restaurants here "in the north" serve normally-brewed unsweetened iced tea.

that's a good point. I didn't mean for it to sound as if they don't have the normally brewed stuff at all.
I had to deal with the Lipton and/or Nestea out of the fountain in NY and was not impressed with it :-P

ICED TEA IS NOT BIG IN THE UK, YO. YOU CAN GET IT IN A FEW PLACES, BUT IT'S NOT POPULAR. WE LIKE OUR HOT TEA! ICED TEA TASTES TOO ARTIFICIAL - IT'S JUST LIKE GETTING POP, YO! EXCEPT PEOPLE PREFER POP.
